Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung (Photo: VNA) Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam regards the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) as an obligation of a responsible member of the United Nations (UN) as well as an opportunity to introduce the country’s consistent policies, efforts and achievements in protecting human rights, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung. He made the statement at a dialogue session on Vietnam’s national report under the third-cycle UPR of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 22. (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has taken specific actions to fulfill her commitments to promoting and protecting human rights at national, regional and international levels as a responsible member of the international community. The Party and State have seriously realised the consistent policy of taking care of people, protecting legitimate rights and interests of all, and respecting and implementing international treaties on human rights Vietnam has signed or participated in. The policy has been institutionalized, as evidenced by the first Constitution the country adopted in 1946 to the 2013 version which devotes 36 out of the 120 articles to cover human rights and citizens’ rights. Conference highlights Vietnam’s efforts in human rights protection
Nguyen Manh Cuong, head of MoLISA’s Department of International Cooperation (Source: http://baodansinh.vn) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA) held a conference in Hanoi on November 9 to discuss progress in human rights work during 2018 and the implementation of relevant recommendations in line with the second cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Nguyen Manh Cuong, head of MoLISA’s Department of International Cooperation, said that the ministry hopes to listen to opinions, feedback, and proposals from agencies and organisations specialising in labour rights and rights of vulnerable groups, towards completing a national report for the third cycle of the UPR in Geneva, Switzerland in January 2019. The ideas will also help the ministry better ensure and promote human rights in the future, he said. Vietnam attaches importance to cooperation, dialogue on human rights
An overview of a session at 73rd UN General Assembly (Source: VNA) New York (VNA) – Vietnam pursues a consistent policy of respecting and ensuring full human rights in conformity with international standards and attaches importance to cooperation and dialogue on human rights. The statement was made by Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Permanent Vietnam Mission to the United Nations, while addressing the general debate of United Nations General Assembly’s Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (Third Committee) within the framework of the 73rd UN General Assembly. Quy also attended other sessions in the committee’s working programme which took place from October 15-29 in New York. He told participants that Vietnam has annual dialogues and consultations with partners such as the US, Switzerland, Australia, Norway and the European Union, and contributes to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights. International workshop on human rights training and dialogue opens in Da Nang
The workshop attracted more than 100 international delegates, representatives of ministries, sectors and units from the central and local level and representatives from a number of diplomatic missions, consulates and international organisations in Vietnam. The workshop focused on discussions, sharing experience and solutions to implement policies on human rights and various issues related to people with disabilities, as well as the practice of human rights in Vietnam, the experience of ensuring the rights of women and children and support for the disabled, women and children in certain localities. Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Ho Ky Minh, said that the contents shared at the workshop will be the basis for the Party committees, authorities and mass organisations to study, apply and implement the policies related to human rights.
