Monsoon to cause downpours across southern Vietnam
Downpours are in the forecast across southern Vietnam over the next days due to the influence of a southwest monsoon. Due to the effect of the southwest monsoon, medium to heavy rains are expected to hit large areas across the region from Monday to Wednesday, according to the southern hydro-meteorological forecasting. The average rainfall will be 50 to 120 millimeters in southeast localities, including Ho Chi Minh City, and 50 to 130 millimeters in the Mekong Delta. The downpours will be accompanied by occasional thunderstorms, gusts, and hail. The weather condition will pose a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas. PV Gas, US firm get investment registration certificate for Son My LNG terminal
The investment registration certificate is a major enabler for the establishment of the Son My LNG terminal project company. The terminal will have an installed capacity of 450 trillion British thermal unit (TBtu) and represents a total investment of about $1.4 billion. "This is an important milestone for the development of the Son My LNG terminal project, which will supply liquified natural gas (LNG) to southern Vietnam and play a major role in shaping Vietnam’s energy future by diversifying the energy mix with imported LNG," said David Stone, president of AES Vietnam. GE secures first 9HA combined cycle power plant in Vietnam
GE's 9HA turbine promises higher combined-cycle efficiency GE on May 16 announced that it secured an order from Samsung C&T Corporation, the leader of the engineering, procurement, and construction consortium that will provide power generation equipment for PV Power’s Nhon Trach 3 & 4 Power Plant in Ong Keo Industrial Park in the Nhon Trach district. The project marks GE’s first H-Class gas turbine order in Vietnam. Once in commercial operation in 2025, Nhon Trach 3 & 4 are expected to deliver over 1.6GW of electricity and will be the first power plants fueled by LNG in the country. Last week, the VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) breached the 1,200-point level after ending the last trade at 1,182.77 points. It lost nearly 120 points just in the last two sessions. The HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX) also finished the week at a lower level of 302.39 points. The market dipped for three out of five sessions. For the week, the VN-Index dropped by more than 11 per cent, while the northern benchmark HNX-Index declined 12 per cent. On the southern bourse, trading value increased by 79.9 per cent compared to the previous week to VND84.2 trillion (US$3.6 billion), equivalent to a rise of 92.9 per cent in trading volume to 3.1 billion shares.
