HCMC – Strong cash flow into bank and steel stocks pushed the VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange up today, June 18, to a new record of 1,377.77 points.

At the close, the main index jumped by 17.85 points, or 1.31%, against the day earlier, with 249 winners and 138 losers. Trade volume totaled over 809 million shares worth VND23.7 trillion, up over 5% in both volume and value from the previous session.

Over 58 million shares valued at VND2.8 trillion were traded in block deals.

In the group of bank stocks, HDB, EIB, BID, MBB and TCB were in positive territory, while lender VCB made a strong rise and reported a matching volume of over 3.2 million shares.

Housing developer VHM was among key drivers of the southern bourse, improving 3.2% at the close.

Among the steel stocks, TLH and SMC shot up to their ceiling prices, while NKG, POM and HSG soared by 2.9%-5.2%.

Many small and medium stocks also became cash magnets and moved up at the end, with property group FLC maintaining its growth momentum and closing up 3.1%. FLC became the most actively traded stock on the southern market with 53 million shares traded.

Financial firm FIT was also one of biggest gainers, rising by 2% and reporting a matching volume of 30 million shares.

With 109 gainers and 84 decliners, the HNX-Index of the Hanoi Stock Exchange stood at 318.73 points at the close, inching up a slight 0.52% from the session earlier.

Among the bank stocks, NVB ended at the reference price, while SHB and BAB made a mild rise. Lender SHB also took the lead on the northern bourse by liquidity, with 16.7 million shares changing hands.

Other largecaps such as securities companies SHS and MBS and service company THD finished the day up and contributed to the growth of the index, while many steel stocks were among the best performers.

The index gradually climbed throughout the day to close with a near 18-point gain, the highest of the past five sessions. It has risen nearly 25 percent this year.

Trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the index is based, rose 5.4 percent to VND23.7 trillion ($1.03 billion). The bourse saw 249 tickers gain and 138 lose.

Foreign investors turned net buyers on the main bourse to the tune of VND646 billion, the highest since April 9. Strongest buying pressure was seen in PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development and HSG of steelmaker Hoa Sen Group.

The VN30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, saw 22 tickers in the green, led by TCH of real estate company Hoang Huy Investment Financial Services with 5.9 percent.

It was followed by VCB of state-owned lender Vietcombank, up 4.1 percent to a new peak. The ticker contributed most to VN-Index’s gain this session, pushing it up by 4.4 points.

MSN of conglomerate Masan Group rose 3.4 percent. It is still struggling to return to its previous peak on May 26.

Other strong gainers include VHM of real estate giant Vinhomes, up 3.2 percent, and PNJ of Phu Nhuan Jewelry, up 2.6 percent.

On the losing side BVH of insurance company Bao Viet Holdings led with a 1.6 percent drop, followed by GAS of state-owned Petrovietnam Gas, down 1.3 percent.

The HNX-Index for stocks on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, home to mid and small caps, rose 0.52 percent while the UPCoM-Index for the Unlisted Public Companies Market added 0.75 percent.

Vietnam taekwondo star claims gold at Asian championship

In the final of the 49 kg category, Tuyen defeated Uzbek fighter Madinabonu Mannopova, runner-up at Asian Games 2019. The intense match ended with a close win 25-24 for Tuyen.

Since Tuyen was seeded first in the tournament, she didn’t have to participate in the first game. In the quarterfinals and semifinals, Tuyen beat opponents from Tajikistan and Taiwan to enter the final.

Last month, Tuyen also grabbed a Tokyo Olympic ticket for Vietnamese taekwondo.

The Asian Taekwondo Championships took place in Lebanon from June 16 to 18. A total of 337 athletes from 28 countries and territories in the region participated in the event.

Vietnam’s four-member team at the tournament included South Korean expert Kim Kil Tae and two other female athletes: Ho Thi Kim Ngan (53 kg) and Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet (57 kg).

Tuyet went on to collect a silver at the championships.

On Saturday, the taekwondo team will travel to Kazakhstan to continue training. Expert Kim and Tuyen will fly to Tokyo on July 19 to compete in the Olympics.

Previously, to prepare for Olympic qualifiers and the Asian Taekwondo Championships, the national taekwondo team left for overseas training on April 14. For the past two months, the team have trained in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, before competing in Jordan and Lebanon.

And since then the Embassy has been regularly subscribing to the newspaper, which in my opinion is an important source of information. We highly appreciate the editorial office’s position on prompt and honest coverage of the events in the country, current social, political, economic, humanitarian and other projects, including, for example, information on measures taken to combat against COVID-19.

In the contemporary world there are too many various fakes and unfair usage of information in political campaigns aimed at forming a false perception of reality in the interests of certain social groups or states. I would like to highlight the high level of professionalism of the Việt Nam News correspondents who have cooperated with the Embassy over the past few years. Vietnam confirms 62 more Covid-19 patients, Firday tally rises to 264

An additional 62 more Covid-19 infections has been recorded in Vietnam as of Friday evening, raising the daily counts to 264 and the total number of patients in the country to 12,414, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry’s report, 59 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 19 in Bac Giang, 30 in Ho Chi Minh City, six in Bac Ninh, three in Ha Tinh, and one in Hoa Binh.

The 19 cases in Bac Giang were recorded at some local industrial parks which have reported a large outbreak over the last few weeks.

As of Friday evening, 9,172 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 5,083 in the virus epicentre of Bac Giang. The outbreak has so far spread to 40 cities and provinces nationwide.

Three imported patients are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from Cambodia and Japan. They were sent to quarantine areas in Tay Ninh and Quang Nam provinces upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 12,414 including 10,742 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on June 18, a total of 4,733 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 62 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 170,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

On June 17, an additional 200,263 people were given Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam, raising the total number of vaccine doses used in the country to 1,991,059. The number of people who have received two doses has risen to 89,833.

Hanoi promotes consumption of farming products amid COVID-19

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – Hanoi’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been supporting farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises to promote the consumption of farming products via modern distribution channels in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy director of the department Nguyen Ngoc Son said that, to expand the agricultural product market, the department has strengthened the connection between Hanoi and other provinces and cities in consuming safe agricultural products.

Of which, it has cooperated with the municipal Department of Industry and Trade to support localities’ trade promotion activities in the capital city to increase the consumption of agricultural and seafood products.

“Besides that, the department has also organised direct connection activities among manufacturers – distributors – consumers in the city, and launched the website https://chonhaminh.gov.vn to promote connections on the e-commerce platform,” Son said.

“Hanoi has also supported businesses in building and advertising their brands of agricultural products to promote consumption via supermarkets, food chains, restaurants, and hotels.”

Specifically, the department has connected with supermarket chains, such as Central Group, MM Mega Market, Vinmart and BRG, to consume more than 130 tonnes of Chi Linh chicken of Hai Duong province; 56,000 tonnes of mango and 98,000 tonnes of longan of Son La province; 12,000 tonnes of vegetables, fruits and seafood products of Hai Duong, Quang Ninh and Ha Giang provinces, and Vinh Chau purple onions of the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang.

The first-ever livestream promoting products of Hanoi’s “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) programme was held early this month by the Hanoi Coordination Office for New-style Rural Area Building together with the ASEAN Digital Conversion Research Institute (ASEAN Academy).

This event aimed to support stakeholders in the production, sale and marketing of OCOP products through digital technologies and e-commerce platforms, especially against the backdrop of COVID-19.

Nguyen Van Chi, standing deputy chief of the Coordination Office for the New Rural Development Programme in Hanoi, said: ” Hanoi considers livestreaming one of the effective solutions to promote online consumption of agricultural products, especially OCOP products and regional specialities.”

Dang Thi Cuoi, Director of the Cuoi Quy Hi-tech Organic Vegetable Cooperative in Dan Phuong district, Hanoi, said that due to the impact of the COVID-19, collective kitchens and restaurants must close while foreigners to Vietnam are also limited, so it is difficult for her cooperative to sell vegetables. However, with online trading channels, the cooperative has stability in vegetable consumption with an average volume of 200-300 kilos of vegetables per day.

According to Dao Thi Luong, Director of the Tam Anh Cooperative for Production and Trading of organic vegetables and fruits in Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi, with the support from the city Women’s Union, the cooperative has sold 200 kilos of vegetables every day. Along with that, the cooperative has been promoting online trading activities, especially on Facebook.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Chu Phu My said that the department will continue to coordinate with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and the Hanoi Trade and Investment Promotion Centre to promote the implementation of a programme on regional cooperation, and support consumption between Hanoi and other provinces and cities.

This programme includes support in introducing farming products and connecting Hanoi and other provinces and cities to promote the consumption of those products, especially products facing oversupply in harvest seasons.

It will support connections between domestic and joint venture enterprises with foreign partners abroad in the distribution and processing of those products, and encourage the businesses to develop e-commerce platforms and apply information technology in consumption activities./.
