Thousands of Vietnamese flights delayed in June
The figure was up 15.9 percent year-on-year and up 9.4 percent from last month, according to a report from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. The delay fights accounted for 18.2 percent of total flights operated by the country's six carriers last month, it said. Low-cost carrier Vietjet Air has the industry's highest rate of flight delays at 24 percent, followed by Vietnam Airlines (20.1 percent). CAAV said late-arriving aircraft was the main cause of delays in addition to other excuses like poor management and bad weather. The Ministry of Transport said the increase in flight delays has triggered public outcry among passengers and damaged the industry's reputation. It ordered airlines to ensure flights are punctual, especially during the peak summer travel season. In the first half of this year, the number of passengers going through Vietnam's airports reached 43.35 million, a pickup of 65.5 percent from a year ago and equivalent to 76 percent of pre-pandemic levels, … [Read more...] about Thousands of Vietnamese flights delayed in June
Vietnam remains a place of seemingly limitless promise: experts
Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Though Vietnam is said to have certain advantages, to maintain sustained success, the country should be a diligent student of not only the upsides, but also the lessons learnt of other countries, said Moritz Kraemer, former Global Chief Ratings Officer of Sovereign Ratings Group at S&P Global and currently the Chief Economist, Head of Research of Landesbank Baden Wuerttemberg (LBBW). Speaking to Vietnam News Agency, the expert held that the world is in turmoil, and the old model of globalisation is severely tested as erstwhile reliable supply chains are ruptured and seem to refuse to heal. Moreover, inflation appears to be getting out of hand in much of the advanced economies as commodity prices soar and labor becomes increasingly scarce. The pandemic remains unpredictable, and the world is experiencing strong and unusual economic and political changes, could you share your views on the situation? Yes, the world is in turmoil. India bans single-use plastic to combat pollution
NEW DELHI -- India on Friday imposed a ban on single-use plastics on items ranging from straws to cigarette packets to combat worsening pollution in country whose streets are strewn with waste. Announcing the ban, the government dismissed the demands of food, beverage and consumer goods companies to hold off the restriction to avoid disruptions. Plastic waste has become a significant source of pollution in India, the world's second most populous country. Rapid economic growth has fuelled demand for goods that come with single-use plastic products, such as straws and disposable cutlery. But India, which uses about 14 million tonnes of plastic annually, lacks an organised system for managing plastic waste, leading to widespread littering. Streets across towns are littered with used plastic goods that eventually choke drains, rivers and oceans and also kill animals. India's ban on single-use plastic items includes straws, cutlery, ear buds, packaging films, plastic sticks for … [Read more...] about India bans single-use plastic to combat pollution
