HÀ NỘI — The sixth Bình Dương Television Amateur Cycling Tournament will begin tomorrow. In this year’s six-stage event, organisers will divide competitors into two age groups, from 16 to 40 and 41 to 55. Athletes who retired from professional cycling since 2016 are eligible to enter. Stages will be held every two months, all starting from Bình Dương. The first stage will be from Bình Dương to Bình Phước Province on January 5. The second is on March 23 to Đồng Nai. The third is on May 18 to HCM City. The fourth is to Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu on July 27. The fifth is to Tây Ninh on September 21 and in the last cyclists will tour around Bình Dương Province on November 9. The dinner showcased the talents of two famous Michelin-starred chefs, André Chiang and Jacques Pourcel. André Chiang, a Taiwanese chef and owner of many world-famous restaurants, is known for his “Octaphilosophy” of eight elements in his dishes: purity, salt, artisanal, southern, texture, uniqueness, memory and terroir. Previously, he worked as the head chef of the three Michelin starred restaurant Le Jardin des Sens in France, where his cooking style was influenced by Jacques Pourcel. Viet Nam News ĐÀ NẴNG — More than 1,600 people from 56 countries and territories will do battle in a bid to be Ironman. Taking place next week in Đà Nẵng, it’s the largest international multi-sport evening in the country. More than 600 of those athletes taking part are from right here in Việt Nam – that’s 10 times the amount of local athletes compared to 2015. Sponsored by Techcombank, 50 of the best athletes to compete will qualify for the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in the Philippines in August. Thirty from that event will make it through to the World Championships in South Africa a month later. This is the fourth time the race has been held. It starts with a 1.9km swim along Hyatt Regency beach followed by a gruelling 90km bike ride along the coastline and if that’s not enough, ends with a 21km run. Viet Nam News By Thanh Nga I met Britisher David Lloyd by chance during a mountain marathon in Sa Pa in Lào Cai Province last year where he was the race director. I was surprised to learn that besides his love for sport, the tall, thin and brisk man was also a cyclist, travel journalist, photographer and writer. I have had the chance to meet him again in Hà Nội. I got to know that he has been living in Việt Nam for seven years and has fallen in love with the country. “I moved here with my wife in 2011. At that time, we had planned to stay for perhaps a year, but we both soon fell for this country. It was my wife’s idea to come here; she had visited before and was confident that we would both enjoy living here.
