Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has targeted shifting from traditional agricultural production, which is heavily dependent on fertilisers and chemicals, to more sustainable production and organic standards, said a provincial official. Nguyễn Sĩ Lâm, director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the province was focusing on environmental protection, emission reductions and climate change adaptation, and calling for more local and foreign investment in green agricultural production. The province since 2013 has had a Jasmine rice production area under GlobalGAP standards in Châu Phú District and a bio-safe rice production area in An Phú District on 400-600 ha per year, with profits increasing for farmers, he said. Interest in Singles’ Day sales skyrockets in VN An analysis conducted by online shopping aggregator iPrice found that Việt Nam’s interest in November 11 Singles’ Day sales skyrocketed this year. According to internet traffic data, the company discovered a huge jump of 210 per cent in the number of customers participating in the Singles Day sales in Việt Nam compared to the same time last year. By analysing Vietnamese search trends on Google, iPrice found that keyword searches for “November 11” began growing steadily nearly two weeks prior to the date, three times higher in search interest compared to the same period last year. Over 90 per cent of the capacity added in 2017 in the region came from China, which increased its total installed capacity to 341,190 MW. Japan is second in the region with an installed capacity of 49,905 MW. It is followed closely by India with an installed capacity of 49,382 MW. In India, added capacity was contributed by the 1,200 MW Teesta III project in the Himalayan north-eastern state of Sikkim. At the launching ceremony (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has launched more than 1 million voluntary carbon credits from household biogas plants to the international market as part of the Biogas Programme for the Animal Husbandry Sector in 2016-2020. The number of credits represents the equal reduction of 1 million tonnes of CO2. Speaking at the launching ceremony in Hanoi on June 26, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam said the project has the largest number of voluntary carbon credits in the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the biogas sector. It is a special project that contributed over 50 percent of the total expenses for implementation, he said.
