Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Sunday met with leaders of Gia Lai to review the Central Highlands province’s socio-economic development in 2021 and plans for the future. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính meets with top officials of the Party Committee of the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on May 22. The meeting took place in Pleiku City, with Government leaders and Gia Lai’s top officials. Crape myrtle, ancient banyan trees in Central Highlands recognized as Vietnam heritage trees
Thirty-six ‘sang le’ or ‘bang lang’ (crape myrtle) trees and one ancient banyan tree in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong have been recognized as heritage trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE). Nguyen Ngoc Binh, chairman of South Central Highlands Forestry One Member Co. Ltd., the group which manages the forest in Quang Truc Commune, Tuy Duc District, Dak Nong, where the 37 trees are located, announced the recognition on Wednesday afternoon. The official recognition by the VACNE was part of its efforts to promote environmental protection and preserve biodiversity. The association also aims to raise awareness about conservation, beautiful landscapes, and cultural and historical values. Trần Sỹ Tố, head of Ea Na Leprosy Treatment Department (also known as Ea Na Leprosy Camp) of Đắk Lắk Dermatology Centre in Tuôr A Hamlet of Dray Sáp Commune, Krông Ana District, is much-loved by leprosy patients and their relatives. He is considered one of the family. It is only 20km from Buôn Ma Thuột City, but few people know that Tuor A Hamlet used to be an isolated area for a long time. Tuor A Hamlet has been renovated with kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and medical centres, including the leprosy treatment department. This achievement is thanks to the efforts and contributions of many generations of staff, doctors, nurses and volunteers who have silently devoted themselves to this community. Ministry calls for Korean investors to pour money into South Central region

28 suspects held over largest-ever deforestation case in Vietnam’s highland province
Police in Dak Lak, a province in Vietnam's Central Highlands, have detained and levied charges against 28 local residents accused of destroying over 380 hectares of forest in a local commune. The suspects were taken into custody following an investigation which began on April 12 into the largest-ever case of deforestation in Dak Lak, local police announced on Sunday. All 28 suspects have been charged with 'forest destruction' under the Vietnamese Penal Code, and the provincial procuracy has ratified the arrest warrants and prosecutions against them. They were found to have been involved in deforestation activities in different areas of Ya To Mot Commune in the province’s Ea Sup District, with an aim to illegally occupy forest land, police said. The area of destroyed forest totals approximately 382.07 hectares, which is part of the forest areas under the management of the commune administration since 2020, according to investigators.
