A medical worker pours chemicals into the sprayer. “Mosquitoes are most active early in the morning and late in the afternoon, so spraying from midnight helps prevent the disease more effectively,” he said.

Land of warriors

February 15, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

Located on the slopes of Khau Pha pass, Aeris Hill offers an exciting series of games like mountain climbing, a high rope course, zorbing, and the longest zipline in Vietnam. As the complex is also right next to Le Champ Tu Le Resort, Aeris Hill is promising to offer an exciting experience for adventurous travellers.

land of warriors

Vietnam’s longest zipline

Located right on the slopes of Khau Pha Pass, one of the four highest passes in Vietnam, Aeris Hill is a pure adventure park and the right destination for holiday warriors who love to conquer challenges. Aeris Hill’s adventures consist of four main attractions, Vietnam’s longest zipline, a zorbing range, a high rope arrangement, and mountaineering. The zipline with a total length of 1.2 kilometres connects the two districts Van Chan and Mu Cang Chai with each other and represents a special highlight in this delightful park.

The currently longest zipline in Vietnam offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view across the beautiful Tu Le Valley and experience the thrills of two slides with two levels ranging from medium to difficult. The first slide starts from a height of over 100 metres, taking visitors over two hills and the famous terraced fields in Tu Le. The second slide is shorter but has a higher slope, challenging brave warriors right next to the hot spring bamboo house of Le Champ Tu Le Resort.

To take part in the zipline slide challenge, visitors will be equipped with protective gear and receive a full safety instruction. For their own safety, visitors weighing less than 50 kilogrammes will be tied together with an extra one to two sandbags to ensure smooth gliding.

After finishing the journey downwards, the Aeris Hill tram will bring the explorers back to the starting point. Though both of the zipline courses only take several minutes to complete, the excitement before and after the trip is guaranteed to last.

Nhat Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, commented, “I tried the zipline many times in Quang Binh, Hue, and am thus really surprised by the length of the slide in Tu Le. Moreover, it’s quite beautiful and runs through many types of terrain such as terraces, rivers, and hills.”

Challenge yourself

Along with the infamous zipline, visitors at Aeris Hill can also experience other adventurous journeys such as the high rope course with 32 aerial games in two difficulties. challenges such as walking on ropes, with the addition of wheels, and balancing across fish nets, are promising to deliver exciting moments and joy to those daredevils overcoming limits.

Those who love climbing sports and tonnes of action cannot ignore the Rock Gem climbing course, designed like a natural mountain with three levels of difficulty ranging from easy to hard, for both children and adults.

Another highlight at Aeris Hill is the fun sport zorbing – with the first pine forest zorbing range in Vietnam, boasting a length of 140m and nerve-wreaking slopes, especially suitable for those who love adventure.

After enjoying these challenges, visitors can relax and immerse themselves in the romantic scenery at the Aeris Hill bar and restaurant located in the middle of the pine forest.

Aeris Hill is open all week from 8.30am to 6pm. Ticket prices range from VND100,000 ($4.3) to VND400,000 ($17), depending on the number of games involved and whether they are purchased for weekends or weekdays.

Vietnamese Muay Thai champion auctions medal to assist flood victims

November 12, 2020 by e.vnexpress.net

The auction was part of a martial arts event called “No. 1 Muay Club Fight Night Warrior Spirit” that Nhat hosted Sunday in Saigon’s District 1, featuring 15 bouts between fighters of local clubs.

The event raised nearly VND250 million (over $10,700) with his second One Championship medal fetching VND200 million (over $8,600).

The funds collected will be used to help flood victims in his native province, Quang Ngai. He and a few others will head to the region on November 14-16 to help with ongoing relief efforts.

The central region was repeatedly hit by torrential rains, widespread flooding and landslides triggered by four storms in October.

At another charity fight that he organized in August, Nhat had auctioned his first ONE Championship medal as well as a pair of gloves to help the poor and to assist struggling coaches and athletes in HCMC.

He made his ONE Championship debut on September 6, 2019 in HCMC. It was also ONE’s debut in Vietnam. In that fight he knocked out Azwan Che Wil of Malaysia in the third round. On November 22, 2019, he faced Japanese champion Yuta Watanabe at ONE Championship: Edge Of Greatness in Singapore. A second round head kick earned him another knockout victory.

Nhat is one of the most decorated and experienced fighters in Vietnam, specializing in Muay Thai and Lethwei (Burmese boxing). He is currently signed to ONE Championship, the number one martial arts media company in Asia and the World Lethwei Championship, a promotion firm based in Myanmar.

He is a five-time World Muay Thai Federation champion and a four-time SEA Games medalist in Muay Thai. Nhat has also won many other Muay Thai international championships and has only lost two matches throughout his professional career.

China’s turning points to “mastering” operations in the East Sea

October 2, 2021 by vietnamnet.vn

Experts believe that China already has a significant presence in the East Sea, going ahead of the US, and will use this advantage to force small countries to follow them.

The East Sea in 2020 can be generalized by the following features:

The increase of China’s presence after the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)’s rulings in 2016

The gathering of countries inside and outside the region through the exchange of notes against China’s 9-dash line, asking China to strictly abide by the PCA’s ruling and affirming United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS) as the universal and unified legislation for all activities in the oceans, and the foundation to determine the ability to create seas, sovereignty rights, jurisdiction and legitimate interests over waters” as well as to resolve disputes in the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea).

ASEAN has made new efforts to build a unified stance under the leadership of the ASEAN chair – Vietnam. The influence of the US presidential election will occur in efforts to shape the Pacific – Indian Ocean strategy of the US and its allies.

Competition between the US and China is increasingly fierce through diplomatic notes, gunboats, and wolf warrior diplomacy in the East Sea.

Both the US and China want to entice ASEAN countries. Washington wants to emphasize a strong US, committed to continuing its presence in the region, ensuring the maintenance of international law, and not letting any party monopolize the East Sea.

Beijing considers the East Sea as “core interest” and is not afraid of American power, and will continue to strengthen military operations and its presence in the East Sea as its backyard.

The Covid-19 pandemic did not make it difficult for China, but caused a great impact on the concentration of countries in the region on the East Sea issue. However, the East Sea, with its important role, is not out of the attention of international public opinion. The trend of internationalization and the legal content in the East Sea disputes has seen dramatic developments.

China’s move

Domestic and foreign scholars and experts all agree that in 2020, China became more and more aggressive, shown on all fronts. Strategically, China was determined to complete the construction of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) into a “world-class” force by 2037, with a range of operation over two siege chains of islands established by the US and its allies after World War 2 in 2021.

China’s marine science and technology has made a breakthrough. It is expected that in January 2021, the deepest and largest self-propelled exploration rig in the world, built by China, will be launched at Lingshui 17-2 oil field, 150km south of Hainan. Here, China will also arrange an oil and gas storage rig of 53,000 tons.

China has also planned to build a fleet of 10 aircraft carriers with the majority of operations in the East Sea. China will continue projects to build rescue centers, sea cities, and floating nuclear power plants in Truong Sa Archipelago (Spratly Islands), to launch submarines and large underwater research equipment.

The year 2020 marked the completion of China’s plan to replace its ocean research fleet. In 1958, the country had only 50 marine survey ships of all kinds. Now, 42 years later, it has a fleet of 60 marine research ships with 9 ocean research ships like the White Dragon 2, which completed its first voyage to Antarctica.

Notably, these ships were present in the East Sea in 2020, including the Dongfang Hong 3 – the largest marine research vessel in the world, with Petrel-X diving equipment that set a world record at a depth of 10,619m, collecting information on salinity, temperature and elements of deep sea water.

China also announced the start of a project to build 50 aquaculture farm ships with a total area of 100,000m3, capable of catching and raising 200,000 tons of high-value seafood.

These activities are the largest in terms of scope, scale and time so far, and if they are successful, China will officially manage and “master” all maritime activities in the East Sea.

Experts believe that China has had a significant presence in the East Sea, going ahead of the US and will use this advantage to force small countries to follow them.

2021 trends

In 2021, China will continue to combine the presence of coast guard and militia maritime vessels.

They are intended to:

Affirm the 9-dash claim and Four Sha in order to reject the PCA’s 2016 ruling; put pressure on relevant countries to abandon the legal path to settle the East Sea disputes;

Put pressure on foreign investors to leave projects with countries around the East Sea to implement the policy that no foreign country can participate in oil and gas exploration and exploitation in the East Sea; promote “setting aside dispute and pursue joint development”; respond to freedom of navigation activities of the US and other countries;

Promote negotiation of the Code of conducts in the East Sea (COC) in favor of China; create a position for the “One Belt, One Road” initiative before the US changes its administration and the Indo-Pacific strategy; set up bargain cards in strategic competition among powers; deploy marine science research strategy for the next decade, and finally modernize the army and its attached forces.

International experts have also talked about the possibility of establishing an air defense identification area (ADIZ) in the East Sea. But this possibility also has an opposite effect on China when the majority of international commercial air routes pass through the East Sea.

In 2021, based on the US attitude and response, China will have enough military activities to intimidate surrounding countries, while proving to the world its presence and security of the East Sea is under control, and that instability is caused by external factors.

The year 2021 has no convergence of factors to make the situation better. At the 12th East Sea conference held in November 2020, international experts made recommendations.

Scholars said that ASEAN does not have enough military power against China, so it can only rely on legal and diplomatic struggle, enlist international support for establishing and adhere to an order based on rules. Regional order should be based on interests and values, rules and norms that are common with the institutions that govern the behavior of nations and international relations.

Dialogue mechanisms can help countries resolve uncertainties and promote cooperation through the expression of intentions and interests. Transparency, dialogue, respect and mutual understanding are all elements of trust-based relationships.

Australian expert Carl Thayer proposed developing a Code of Conduct against incidents at sea, expanding regulations on the prevention of unintended sea collisions between military forces for both civilian, commercial and fishing boats.

Scholars are all inclined to develop multilateralism, calling for cooperation in building order based on rules, calling on China to negotiate. Countries need to fight for an effective surveillance and compulsory dispute resolution mechanism to stabilize the East Sea situation.

Buffalo in Vietnamese culture

February 11, 2021 by en.vietnamplus.vn

The buffalo is the traditional symbol of Vietnam, representing bravery, happiness, and prosperity. Buffalos also play a very important role in Vietnamese agriculture, being a farmer’s most valued possession and often treated like a member of the family.

Not many people know that the buffalo also contributed greatly to the success of Vietnam’s revolution against foreign invaders. They were not only used to carry loads for farmers but also pulled carts of supplies for soldiers during wartime. Buffalos were an “undercover” means of transport, being able to walk on very poor roads, cross bridges and rivers, and climb steep hills.

Apart from their contribution to Vietnam’s economy and history, buffalo are also a cultural symbol of the country. They have many qualities Vietnamese people appreciate, such as diligence, a gentle disposition, and loyalty, and can also symbolise powerful warriors.

Buffalos appear in many stories about Vietnamese heroes, in Dong Ho paintings, at festivals, and in poetry as a symbol of a peaceful and prosperous life.

Today, due to industrialisation in agriculture, the buffalo is no longer such a major asset. The animal’s image is also less likely to appear in cultural and artistic works. The “Buffalo in Vietnamese Life” exhibition was therefore opened recently at the Old Quarter Cultural Center, 50 Dao Duy Tu Street, Hanoi, in an effort to promote the animal among the public.

The exhibition introduces about 70 artifacts, sculptures, and paintings on buffalo in Vietnam ese life, recalling memories of peaceful lives in the countryside. It is also expected to help children in cities gain a better understanding of the special beast.

It is open to the public until the end of the Lunar New Year ./.
