Environment sector asked to harmonize economic development-environmental protection relations
Addressing a plenary session of the 10th National Environment Conference in Hanoi which drew 600 delegates, Thanh pointed to great challenges in the current environmental protection, including severe environmental pollution in many places and the degradation of biodiversity. He asked the environment sector to continue diversifying resources for environmental protection activities, while paying more attention to the environmental factor in the value structure of goods and services, strengthening the law enforcement in environmental activities, and increasing the use of mechanisms, tools and State management measures for environmental protection. He also asked ministries, sectors and localities to, right after the conference, promptly build and implement specific action programs and plans, while multiplying good models in the field to make positive changes and obvious outcomes in the work. [Net-zero strategy] People-centered approach: Vietnam’s weapon to realize COP26 commitment
Vietnam said all development decisions must be nature-based and centered around people to ensure sustainable development in which no one would be left behind. Vietnam preps for plastic pollution treaty
Coordination mechanism The project sets out six main tasks, including capacity building for negotiations; information collection and database establishment; resources for negotiation preparation; establishing a coordination mechanism; mobilizing domestic and international support; and strengthening national roles and responsibilities. The project aims to ensure sufficient conditions for resources as well as information and data to serve the preparation and participation in negotiations, ensuring the nation’s rights and interests in the prevention and reduction of ocean plastic pollution. Under the Communist Party Central Committee’s Resolution 36-NQ/TW on the strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision towards 2045, one of the important goals is preventing and significantly reducing pollution of the marine environment, as well as pioneering in the region in reducing ocean plastic waste. Blue is the colour for ASEAN’s objectives
“We reiterated the importance of cooperation on this issue and called for the implementation of the ASEAN Leaders Declaration on the Blue Economy. We looked forward to exploring cooperation in accordance with the said declaration,” read a joint communiqué released during the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting organised over a week ago in Cambodia.
