Grandmaster Le Quang Liem (Photo: VNA) Quang Ninh (VNA) – Three Vietnamese players have entered semi-finals of the individual rapid chess competition at SEA Games 31 , but grandmaster Le Quang Liem was not among them. The qualifying matches of games 1 to 5 of the individual rapid chess competition took place at the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Centre on May 16. Four Vietnamese players competed in the event. In the women’s category, two players Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong each had three wins and two draws, earning 4 points, and ranked 1st and 2nd respectively on the chart. In the men’s category, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son had three draws and two wins, with 3.5 points. However, Liem won only two matches, lost in two other and drew one, earning only 2.5 points; Thus, Thao Nguyen, Thuy Duong, and Truong Son reached the semi-finals. Nguyen Thanh Liem wins a gold medal for Vietnam (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vovinam ( Vietnamese martial arts ) artists won additional two gold medals on May 19 – the second competition day of Vovinam at the 31st Southeast Asian Games ( SEA Games 31 ). In the men’s 60kg combat event, Nguyen Thanh Liem knocked out his Cambodian rival Eh Ammarin Phouthong to pocket the gold medal. Meanwhile, Do Phuong Thao triumphed in the women’s 65kg combat event after defeating Cambodia’s Chuk Somali. In the performance category, duo Pham Thi Bich Phuong and Truong Thanh won a silver medal, while the gold belonged to Mala Chanthalacksa - Phiksamay Insoumuang of Laos. Nguyen Thi Oanh is the current forerunner of Vietnamese athletics. In SEA Games 2017, she clinched the double gold medal in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter distances and helped Vietnam dominate these categories ever since. In SEA Games 2019, she successfully defended her gold medals in these two events, and scored another in the 3,000-meter hurdle race. At a recent meeting with Hanoi Party secretary Dinh Tien Dung, Nagakawa Tetsuyuki, general director of Aeon Mall Vietnam, said the Aeon Mall Hoang Mai project is now in its last preparation stages for investment. It has enough funds, personnel and equipment to begin construction right after investment procedures are completed, he said. Aeon Mall is currently operating six projects in Vietnam, including two malls in Hanoi's Long Bien and Ha Dong districts. It plans to launch 16 more projects in Vietnam by 2025. Tetsuyuki said he hopes Hanoi will continue its support so the Aeon Mall Hoang Mai project can begin construction in the third quarter. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Archers participating in the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) began their performances at the Hanoi National Sports Training Centre in Nam Tu Liem district on May 15 morning. Following the opening ceremony, the athletes competed in the one-string and three-string bow events for both men and women. Vietnam has sent 16 archers to the Games, including eight men and eight women, with outstanding athletes like Do Thi Anh Nguyet who participated in the Olympic Tokyo 2020, and Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhi who grabbed top positions in the five categories of 30m, 50m, 60m, 70m, and all-round recurve, and two silvers in other classes at the National Top Archery Champions last March.
