Hanoi (VNA) - A flower street with the theme of “Home Hanoi Xuan 2021” is set to be held for the first time between February 7 and 17 in Splendora urban area of Hoai Duc district in Hanoi in order to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival, known locally as Tet. The street will feature a traditional Tet space, including Dong Ho folk paintings, Bat Trang ceramic products, and calligraphic works, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV). In addition, the area will also include traditional items such as Chuong village’s Non La, a type of conical hat, and Chung cake, a festive delicacy consisting of a square sticky rice cake, in order to offer visitors an ideal check-in location. Alongside various art performances, water puppetry show and folk games are also set to entertain visitors throughout Tet. Demand for imported high-value seafood rises
HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam’s imports of high-value seafood such as king crabs and lobsters are rising due to their falling prices, and are expected to rise even further during the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, experts have said. Robert Greenan, Deputy Consul General at the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, said last year exports of Alaskan seafood rose 125 percent to 19 million USD. Vietnam became the US’s sixth largest buyer of agricultural products and foodstuffs with imports worth 4 billion USD. According to the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute in Vietnam, demand for seafood is rising in the country, and several processing factories are moving from China to Vietnam due to tariffs. Alaskan seafood is mostly bought by restaurants and hotels and processors. The institute aims to expand the distribution network so that more customers can buy Alaskan seafood for cooking at home. Tet activities set for ethnic cultural village
Hanoi (VNA) - Activities to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and a programme to make thousands of “banh chung” (square glutinous rice cakes) for the poor are slated to be held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, the village announced on January 25. These will take place at the village from January 29 to February 1 (the 17th to the 20th day of lunar December). The village’s annual programme to make “banh chung” to help the poor enjoy Tet has been held for many years. Some 1,000 Tet gift sets worth some 500,000 VND (22 USD) each will also be sent to disadvantaged people in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Tri. Traditional customs during Tet will also be introduced to visitors, with the aim of preserving, upholding and promoting the values of Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups, and easing the difficulties facing the poor.
