Qualtrics’ Employee Experience Trends reveals ‘belonging’ key to employee engagement in Singapore in 2021

February 8, 2021 by bizhub.vn

Annual report finds top engagement drivers shifted significantly during 2020

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 8 February 2021 - New research released today by Qualtrics, the leader in employee experience (EX) and creator of the experience management (XM) category, has revealed significant shifts to the drivers of employee engagement in Singapore in 2021.

According to the 2021 Singapore Employee Experience Trends Report, four of the top five employee engagement drivers changed over the last year. Creating a sense of belonging, and continually improving ways of working emerged as the top two drivers of employee engagement. Confidence in senior leadership – which was second in last year’s list – ranked third, followed by managers role modelling effective collaboration with other teams, and effective collaboration between teams.

The engagement drivers to drop out of the top five were a clear link between work and the company’s strategic objectives, managers who help employees with career development, opportunities for learning and development, and recognition for good work.

Employee engagement in Singapore on the rise

Despite the challenges faced by businesses and government in 2020, overall levels of employee engagement in Singapore increased to 56% in 2020, from 47% in 2019. This is in line with the global average, which rose 13% in the last year (66% vs. 53%). Intent to stay with an organisation three years or more also increased to 56%, from 43% in 2019.

Well-being, which is an important contributor to overall EX, continues to be a priority for workers and is predicted to be a key trend for organisations in 2021. A sense of belonging is of particular importance in the context of well-being. Singapore employees who feel like they belong are more than 4x more likely to rate their well-being favourably than those who feel like they don’t belong (75% vs. 18%).

Despite this, only 56% of employees in Singapore rated their overall well-being as favourable, down 13% from mid-2020, and below the global average of 67%.

Lauren Huntington, EX Solutions Strategy, Qualtrics Southeast Asia, said: “2020 has irreversibly changed the working world, and so it is unsurprising we have seen engagement drivers shift considerably this year. As businesses and governments look forward to 2021 we expect to see these engagement drivers change once again as restrictions continue to change. To ensure teams are provided with the support and services they need in fast changing situations it is critical leaders are able to understand how emerging trends are reshaping the workplace, and what they can do to design and improve employee experience.”

“As a hybrid work arrangement takes hold across the globe, it is important that organisations coach and equip their frontline managers to effectively support their teams,” said Mayank Parekh, CEO, Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP). “Organisations should take a holistic view of the employee life cycle, leveraging data insights to deliver a more compelling employee experience. This survey reinforces the vital role of HR’s in building competency in areas such as employee belonging, collaboration and ways of working, as well as supporting the well-being of employees.”

Listening up, positive action down

According to the Qualtrics study, more than nine in 10 Singaporean employees (93%) believe it’s important their company listens to feedback. Compared to 12 months previously more employees are being listened to, with the volume of respondents saying they have an opportunity to feedback increasing to 74% in 2020 (up from 65%). However, only 21% say their company acts on it very well – which is a 4% decrease over the same period.

“While it’s pleasing to see more employers listening to their teams, the study outlines the critical importance of acting on feedback. There is no one size fits all approach to improving the employee experience. By capturing responses from their teams across the entire employee lifecycle and in key moments that matter, businesses are able to design improved experiences.”

“The business impact of listening and acting on feedback is huge. When organisations do take action, scores increase across employee engagement (90%), wellbeing (88%) and intent to stay (87%),” said Huntington.

About the study

The 2021 Global Employee Experience Trends Report examined more than 11,800 full-time employees across 20 different countries around the world, to find out what’s changed in employee experience, and what is driving employee engagement in a post-COVID world. More than 330 respondents polled were from Singapore.

AES Vietnam rewards 100 poor Binh Thuan households for Tet

February 8, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

Each household received a gift set valued at VND500,000 ($21.86), which included basic commodities for Tet. The gift sets were presented to 52 poor households in Song Phan Commune, mostly inhabited by ethnic Rai, and 48 families in Son My Commune.

“After nearly 15 years of operating in Vietnam, we fully understand the importance and meaning of Tet in Vietnamese culture. With these gifts, we hope to offer a warmer and more meaningful festive period to the poor, so Tet can be celebrated in every household and no one is left behind,” said David Stone, president of AES Vietnam.

The Tet gifts are part of AES’s social impact program, which aims to improve the quality of life for local communities, focusing on four main pillars – health, education, livelihoods and infrastructure.

Hoang Quoc Bao, Stakeholder Officer, AES Vietnam presented Tet gifts to the poor households in Song Phan commune.

In October 2020, AES Vietnam presented scholarships to 120 students in Son My Commune. The scholarships were provided in collaboration with the association for promoting education in the commune, aiming to motivate students to advance their studies and help cover a part of their tuition fees.

AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) is a Fortune 500 global power company, providing affordable, sustainable energy to 14 countries. In 2019, the company’s revenues totaled $10 billion, with $34 billion in total assets.

AES, through its subsidiary, AES Mong Duong Power Company Limited, has developed and arranged financing for Mong Duong 2 Power Project of 1,242 MW with total investment of approximately $2.1 billion. This is Vietnam’s first build-operate-transfer coal-fired power project, representing approximately 2.3 percent of the country’s installed capacity.

In November 2017, AES signed an MOU with PV Gas to develop the $1.3 billion Son My LNG Terminal Project. AES also signed an MOU with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in 2019 to develop a 2.2 GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant under the BOT scheme, which will be located in Binh Thuan Province.

In October 2020, AES Vietnam and PV GAS inked a Term Sheet of the Joint Venture Agreement for Son My LNG terminal. Together, the CCGT and terminal are expected to play a major role in shaping Vietnam’s energy future by diversifying the energy mix with imported LNG and meeting the country’s increasing demand for sustainable and affordable electricity.

HCMC urged to apply social distancing after dozens test positive for coronavirus

February 8, 2021 by e.vnexpress.net

These high-risk areas should be governed by the government’s Directive 16 that bans public gatherings of more than two people and asks people to stay home, stepping out only for emergencies, Long said.

The proposal was made at a meeting Monday after HCMC recorded five recent community transmissions, all being baggage handlers at Tan Son Nhat Airport and 25 of their close contacts who have tested positive for the virus and are awaiting Health Ministry confirmation as Covid-19 patients. The source of the new cluster at the airport has not been determined.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed with the proposal at the meeting, saying that there have been seven areas in HCMC recording community transmissions, and social distancing should be applied in those areas.

The areas are in Districts 1, 9, 12, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Binh Tan and Tan Binh.

HCMC applied social distancing under Directive 16 from April 1 to 22 last year.

Long said the outbreak in the baggage handling area at Tan Son Nhat could have existed long before and that some people involved may have been infected and then recovered.

“The outbreak in HCMC was quite complicated and has gone through many cycles of infection; therefore, the source of this outbreak has not yet been determined. This is what makes us very worried,” he said.

The heath minister said even though they did not have contact with air passengers, the infected airport staff could still have interacted with many people in the community. He asked the city government to urgently prevent the outbreak from spreading further.

As of Monday morning, several residential areas in HCMC have been locked down. Health staff are racing against time to track down all those in close contact with the confirmed patients and suspected cases for centralized quarantine and coronavirus testing.

HCMC has now recorded six locally transmitted cases, counting from Jan. 28 when community transmissions returned to Vietnam after 55 clean days, with the first case related to the cluster in northern Hai Duong Province.

In the past 11 days, Vietnam has registered 422 domestic cases in 12 cities and provinces.

Vietnamese will celebrate Tet, the country’s biggest festival, this Friday but authorities in HCMC decided to cancel firework shows on Lunar New Year’s Eve amid the complicated development of the pandemic.
