A recent survey on 10 years of the 'Vietnamese people prioritise using Vietnamese goods campaign' revealed 88 per cent of Vietnamese had interested in the campaign. Sixty-seven per cent said they would buy Vietnamese goods, 52 per cent said they recommended relatives buy Vietnamese goods and 36 per cent said they had shifted from buying foreign goods to domestic goods. However, Nguyen Van Than, chairman of the Viet Nam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Vinasme), said that there were still many problems with the campaign. Supermarkets, trade centres and convenience stores had improved fast but they were mostly in cities and towns, he said. Vietnamese lacquer work first contemporary Southeast Asian art piece in French museum
Named ‘Borderline,’ it is the first Southeast Asian contemporary craft item to be displayed by the museum. The Guimet Museum of Asian Art in Paris is one of the largest Asian art museums outside Asia, with more than 50,000 works of art on display in a space of 55,000 square meters (66,000 square yards). A collaborative work by Vietnamese artist Tran Nu Yen Khe and Hanoi-based Hanoia haute lacquer house, the product is based on the conical hat or non la, a Vietnamese icon, though it has been used in several countries. On the spire of the hat runs a floral motif layered over golden leaves threaded by a barbed wire fence. The bright red and orange colors used reflect those found in traditional pagodas in Vietnam, a predominantly Buddhist nation. Competition rising in VN ice cream market
Ice cream is also a market where local and foreign brands are battling it out for market share. The Kido Group, formerly Kinh Do, posted its highest revenue growth for three years in 2018 after selling its snacks business. The new strategy - fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) including cooking oil, instant noodles, and frozen foods - lay behind the growth. When penetrating into new markets, the group defined its priorities as market dominance and testing as well as developing its ice cream category, with the aim of remaining the market leader despite the increasing competition and slowing growth in FMCG. Less-than-expected growth Kido Foods, which owns ice cream and other frozen food brands, holds a 40 per cent market share and has a huge distribution network of up to 70,000 points throughout the country.
