Bank stocks rising on back of bright prospects

March 1, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

bank stocks rising on back of bright prospects
The results of 2020 business and 2021 outlook support the rise of bank stocks

Ending the last session of February, the VN-Index stood at 1,168.47 points, corresponding to an increase of 111.86 points (10.59 per cent) compared to the previous month. The HNX-Index increased by 35.01 points (16.3 per cent) to 249.22 points. The UPCoM-Index also increased 4.56 points (6.33 per cent) to 76.64 points.

Large-cap stocks recovered well in February as only the NVL ticker of Novaland decreased by 0.7 per cent. Meanwhile, as many as 14 other stocks in this group increased by over 15 per cent. The shares of VPBank (VPB), rose the most among the top 30 by market capitalisation with over 33 per cent. Following that, Thaiholdings (THD) also increased by 26 per cent and was a key factor helping the HNX-Index continue to break out recently.

February was also a good month for banking stocks as, besides VPB, the stocks of Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB), Asia Bank (ACB), Techcombank (TCB), or Vietinbank (CTG) also increased by over 20 per cent.

Particularly, the last trading week of February recorded a rise in most bank stocks. At the price of VND33,000 ($1.44), Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) was the strongest increase with nearly 9 per cent. Military Bank (MBB) led in liquidity with nearly 72.1 million shares. Military Bank shares closed the morning session at VND28,200 ($1.23) a share.

Vietnam Prosperity Bank (VPB) reached VND40,800 ($1.77) while Techcombank (TCB) reached VND40,200 ($1.75), Vietnam International Bank (VIB) hit VND43,200 ($1.88) a shares, and HCMC Development Bank (HDB) increased to VND26,200 ($1.14) per share. Notably, LienViet Post Bank (LPB) hit the ceiling price on March 1, recording liquidity of over 36 million shares and closing the session of March 2 at VND16,100 (70 US cents) a share.

PYN Elite Fund said that the VN-Index can completely increase to 1,800 points in 2022 with favourable macroeconomic factors, including high GDP growth and still attractive market valuation compared to regional countries with the potential to be upgraded to the emerging market status. Once the upgrade is confirmed, banking stocks will lead the rise.

In the “Vietnam – Asia’s new success story”, PYN Elite expressed the belief that the prospects of Vietnam’s banking industry in the coming years are very positive.

“Bank shares have benefited from negative price movements over the past few years. During this time, we have sharply increased the proportion of banking stocks in our portfolio to nearly 40 per cent. We believe that these banks will have strong growth in the next few years and at the same time profit growth will be strong,” shared PYN Elite.

One of the factors that help banking stocks recover and continuously increase in price is the result of 2020 business and 2021 outlook of the banking and finance industry.

Banks continue to benefit from the lower cost of capital as deposit rates have fallen from 2 to 2.5 per cent in 2020 and a sharp decline in the second half of 2020 extends to 2021.

Besides, under Circular No.01/2020/TT-NHNN, in the fourth quarter of 2020, restructured debt began to decline in the group of listed banks.

Specifically, the ratio of restructured debt to total outstanding loans at some listed banks has decreased from 2.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2020 to 2 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2020.

According to an expert at SSI Securities JSC, the profit of banks in 2020 can be managed more than expected at the beginning of the year. The company estimated that the average earnings before tax of banking stocks will grow 21 per cent on-year.

The 2021 strategy report of VNDirect Securities JSC forecast that the profit of banks will increase in 2021. VNDirect expected the investment disbursement rate will continue to be high and the State Bank of Vietnam will maintain its monetary policy to promote economic recovery and increase signals.

February 27, 2021 by en.nhandan.org.vn

Ajax Amsterdam, the four-time European champions, will take on Swiss club Young Boys, while Arsenal face Greek side Olympiakos and Tottenham Hotspur, the third English club to reach the last 16, will tackle Dinamo Zagreb. European debutants Granada of Spain will face Norwegian club Molde while AS Roma face a tough tie against seasoned European contenders Shakhtar Donetsk.

* Werder Bremen’s United States forward Josh Sargent scored the winner as his struggling side came from a goal down at halftime to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in the Bundesliga on Friday and hand the visitors a first league defeat of the year. Victory moved Werder eight points above the relegation zone while ending fourth-placed Frankfurt’s 11-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, stretching back to early December.

* Fifteen-time major winner Tiger Woods is recovering and in “good spirits” after he received successful follow-up procedures on injuries sustained this week in a car accident, according to a statement posted to his Twitter account on Friday.

* Dutch driver Nyck De Vries started Formula E’s seventh season with victory for Mercedes in the all-electric world championship’s first night race in Saudi Arabia on Friday. Swiss racer Edoardo Mortara finished four seconds behind for the Monaco-based Venturi team, who also use the Mercedes powertrain, with New Zealander Mitch Evans third for Jaguar.

* Burnley manager Sean Dyche may have no intention of selling goalkeeper Nick Pope anytime soon but crisps and a pint of beer in a pub during lockdown in Britain could tempt him to allow the player to move, the 49-year-old said jokingly on Friday.

* Ferrari Formula One boss Mattia Binotto will not attend all races this season, delegating to racing director Laurent Mekies as the team’s focus turns to making the most of major rule changes for 2022.

* Fernando Alonso will take no part in media activities when his Alpine Formula One team present their new car next Tuesday, with the Spaniard recovering from surgery to his jaw after a road accident, the team said on Friday. The 39-year-old double world champion left hospital on Feb. 15 after being in a collision with a car while cycling near his home in Switzerland.

* Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury which will need surgery, manager Ralph Hasenhuettl said on Friday. The 29-year-old Spaniard was forced off in the 70th minute of Tuesday night’s 3-0 defeat by Leeds United.

* Leicester City playmaker James Maddison has been ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League game against Arsenal due to a niggling hip issue, manager Brendan Rodgers said. The 24-year-old England international was substituted as a precaution in last weekend’s 2-1 league win at Aston Villa after a recurrence of the hip problem and missed Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Slavia Prague that knocked them out of the Europa League.

* Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is rediscovering his best form after his recent problems on and off the pitch and the Gabon striker’s resurgence gives the team a better chance of being successful, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday. The 31-year-old Aubameyang scored twice, including a late winner, as Arsenal beat Benfica 3-2 on Thursday and 4-3 on aggregate to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.

* West Ham United’s rise to fourth place in the Premier League at this stage of the campaign is down to the big strides they have made under the experienced David Moyes, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday. West Ham, who finished 16th last season, beat London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 last weekend to extend their unbeaten run in the league to four games, pushing themselves into contention for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

* Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is going through a rough patch in front of goal but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Friday he was confident the Frenchman will rediscover his form on the back of his unquestionable work ethic. Martial was United’s top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions last season but has found the net just seven times so far this term.

* Paris St Germain forward Neymar’s return from injury is on schedule after he was ruled out for four weeks earlier this month with an adductor muscle injury, coach Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday. The Brazil international has been sidelined since limping off the pitch on Feb. 10 in a French Cup game against Caen, which ruled him out of PSG’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Barcelona.

* Ronald Koeman called on Barcelona’s players to step up and reduce the club’s reliance on Lionel Messi for goals ahead of Saturday’s La Liga trip to Sevilla. Messi, 33, has scored 18 times in the league this season with Antoine Griezmann the next highest scorer on six, and once again scored the opening two goals in Wednesday’s league victory over Elche.

* Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Leeds United as he has still not recovered from the leg injury that ruled him out of last week’s defeat by Leicester City, manager Dean Smith has confirmed.

* Brighton & Hove Albion wing back Tariq Lamptey will return for Saturday’s Premier League trip to second-bottom West Bromwich Albion after being out for more than two months with a hamstring problem, manager Graham Potter said. Lamptey sustained the injury in a Premier League match against Fulham on Dec. 16.

* Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will be sidelined for at least five weeks after undergoing groin surgery, the Premier League champions said on Friday. The 30-year-old England international sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Everton.

HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is building a ‘golden brand’ for its agricultural enterprises, Võ Văn Hoan, vice chairman of the city’s People Committee, has said.

In 2020, none of the 30 enterprises receiving the HCM City Golden Brand Award were in the agricultural sector.

Hoan has encouraged enterprises to develop brands for local agricultural products and services. Cần Giờ District specialties, for example, that have already been branded include dried shark catfish, bird’s nest and mango.

The development of high-value agricultural products together with tourism will benefit the local economy and maintain agriculture.

Đinh Minh Hiệp, director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the city will continue to call for more investment in agriculture. The aim is to increase its number of agricultural enterprises to 2,000 from the 1,910 enterprises in 2020.

Ninety per cent of agricultural enterprises in Việt Nam are small or micro sized, with capital of less than VNĐ10 billion (US$430,000).

The country’s agriculture sector targets being ranked in the top 15 in the world, in which the agricultural processing sector would rank among the top 10 countries by 2030. — VNS

RoK resumes importing Vietnamese carrots

March 4, 2021 by vov.vn

Hai Duong has just ended social distancing measures after the latest coronavirus outbreak was brought under control. Check points which connect the locality to Hai Phong city have also been lifted.

Tran Van Quan, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said 30 containers of carrots were transported on March 3 from Duc Chinh commune in Cam Giang district.

Furthermore, approximately 1,000 tonnes of carrots from Hai Duong province are planned to be exported to the RoK on March 4, Quan added.

Local firms collected carrots from farmers at a price of VND5,000 (just US$0.21) per kilo, and sold the product to the importer at VND10,000 per kilo.

The boost in farm produce exports has taken place after the RoK on February 25 decided to lift its import ban placed on Vietnamese carrots along with some other agricultural products.

Hai Duong makes up one of the largest carrot growing areas in northern Vietnam, covering 1,500 hectares with the majority mainly located in Cam Giang and Nam Sach districts.

The price of carrots for export is anticipated to rise further if China, Vietnam’s largest farm produce consumer, opens its border to import the product.

Ho Chi Minh City court sentences man to death for murdering, robbing co-worker

March 4, 2021 by tuoitrenews.vn

A man has been given capital punishment for robbing and murdering his co-worker in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018.

The municipal People’s Court on Wednesday sentenced Nguyen Hoang Phi, 24, who hails from the southern province of Binh Phuoc, to death for murder and robbery.

His accomplices, Nguyen Dien Tai and Tran Van Tu, both 21, each received an 18-year jail term for murder and robbery.

Tai and Tu were under 18 years old when they committed the offenses.

The fourth defendant, 19-year-old Vuong Minh Tuan, was condemned to one year and a half in prison for robbery but he was given a suspended sentence.

Tuan was under 16 years old when he committed the violation.

According to the indictment, Phi was an employee of a local security guard service company.

He was dispatched to Ngoc Chau Company along with Bui Van Dat and some other people from April 1, 2018.

On the evening of October 5 the same year, Phi and Dat were on duty during the same shift.

Phi then planned on robbing his co-worker and contacted Tai and Tu for their assistance.

The man waited until Dat went out for some errands and let his accomplices enter the place.

At around 9:30 pm that night, Dat was patrolling the venue when he was attacked and tied up by Tai and Tu.

The two also took the victim’s phone and VND1.5 million (US$65), while Phi was in charge of keeping watch.

As Dat screamed for help, Phi arrived and told the other two robbers to kill the victim to prevent him from reporting the case to police.

Despite Dat begging for mercy, the three strangled him to death with an electric wire.

They took Dat’s body to outlying Binh Chanh District and buried it at an empty land plot.

On November 15, 2018, Phi and Tuan stole Tai’s motorbike and sold it to Cambodia for some cash.

In the following month, Tai’s father discovered that Tuan was involved in the motorbike theft and took him to the local police station.

Tuan admitted his wrongdoing to officers, but went on to accuse Phi, Tai, and Tu of murdering and robbing Dat.

Police then launched an investigation into the case and found Dat’s body.
