65 years ago on the Muong Thanh plain, in the midst of the Northwestern mountains and forests, the Vietnamese people and armed forces, under the leadership of the Party headed by President Ho Chi Minh, fought the strategic battle of Dien Bien Phu. Certificates of the “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” title were given to relatives of the women. Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Hoang expressed gratitude towards the mothers and their families. At the meeting, delegates recalled the heroic traditions of the naval troops in general and forces participating in Ta Lon Campaign in particular. Many of them came from Ha Nam province. On May 3, 1975, Pol Pot (Khmer Rouge) troops attacked Phu Quoc Island and many places along the Vietnam-Cambodia land border. They occupied Tho Chu Island, killed nearly 1,000 Vietnamese people. Meanwhile, in Cambodia, they carried out the policy of genocide, killing nearly 3 million Cambodians, and imprisoning 4 million others in concentration camps. Cambodia was heavily damaged. The event, which was jointly held by Nhan Dan Newspaper and the central province of Nghe An, saw the attendance of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as well as other high-ranking Party and State officials. During the resistant war against the Americans, Truong Bon was a key transport hub for the southern battlefield, making it a focus for bombing from the American imperialists. In just four years, between 1964 and 1968, the site suffered from 18,936 bombs of various types along with thousands of missiles.
