GrabFood expansion: Risky or wise? First of all, it is obvious that the on-demand food delivery market in Vietnam has great potential. According to Euromonitor, the Vietnamese market has a growth rate of 11 per cent per year, and is expected to be worth $38 million by 2020. Besides some big players with a firm position in the market such as Foody, Now.vn, and Vietnammm, users also witnessed some well-known brands withdrawing from the food delivery market due to the huge competitive pressure such as Foodpanda or Lala. This proved that the food delivery market is not an easy market to operate in. As a newcomer among its rivals, GrabFood proved its strength with remarkable milestones on the journey to expand its domestic operation. After the impressive success in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Danang, it continued to launch, at the same time, in 12 new provinces and cities, bringing the total number of locations where GrabFood is present up to 15 cities and provinces and becoming the … [Read more...] about GrabFood expands to 12 new cities and provinces: Risky or wise?
If the Gold Stars can beat the Blue Samurai this Thursday night, it will already be a Tet like no other; ultimate semi-final or final glories or not. — Photo tinthethao.com.vn By Terry Hartney There is a perfect storm brewing for Vietnam in the coming fortnight as family and friends come together for their annual celebrative binge of being Vietnamese for the lunar new year festival, called Tet. For the past week or so, the focus has been on reunions to do with work, shared university, schooling and other relationships dating far back in time. Soon the family takes over, and the eating and drinking intensifies, punctuated by group visits to forbears’ graves, temples and relatives, particularly in countryside ancestral villages. (One of the traditional arguments against marrying outside of Vietnamese blood is that a foreigner can never really be a part of this ancestor worship process). Mixed in with all of this is the unexpected progress of the Gold Stars from … [Read more...] about A new moon rising alongside a gold star
Chinese state television said the Chang’e-4 lunar probe, launched in December, made the "soft landing" at 0226 GMT and transmitted the first-ever "close range" image of the dark side of the moon. The moon is tidally locked to Earth, rotating at the same rate that it orbits our planet, so the far side - or the "dark side" - is never visible from Earth. Previous spacecraft have seen the far side of the moon but none has landed on it. The landing "lifted the mysterious veil" from the far side of the moon and "opened a new chapter in human lunar exploration", the broadcaster said. The probe, which includes a lander and a rover, touched down at a preselected landing area, the official Xinhua news agency said, after it had entered the moon’s orbit in mid-December. Xinhua posted a wide-angle color picture of a crater from the moon’s surface to its official microblog. The tasks of the Chang’e-4 include astronomical observation, surveying the moon’s terrain, … [Read more...] about China ‘lifts mysterious veil’ by landing probe on dark side of the moon
Viet Nam News Lương Thu Hương At the 17th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology (ISME17) held in Germany in August, Nguyễn Việt Hùng was the only Vietnamese speaker invited to present his work in front of over 2,000 renowned scientists from over 60 countries. Hùng, a Vietnamese postgraduate at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, is also responsible for discovering eight new species of bacteria. His presentation on his new findings received rave responses from the attendees. Born into a family in which both grandfather and father were researchers, Hùng became interested in reading books and research from a young age. When he was small, he adored Pokémon, a fictional character featured in Japan’s Pokémon Adventures Manga, so much so that he memorised all the features of 15 kinds of Pokemon and even received a US$200 award for an essay about the characters submitted to a writing contest in the … [Read more...] about Young scientist discovers eight new bacterial species
