Hanoi hosts meeting of ASEAN commission on women’s, children’s rights
Hanoi (VNA) – The 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) took place in Hanoi on October 20, gathering representatives from ten ASEAN nations and the ASEAN Secretariat. It was the ACWC’s second meeting in the year, following the 16th meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia in March. It was held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the ASEAN Secretariat as part of the third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women (AMMW) and related meetings in Hanoi from October 18 – 25. The meeting discussed the follow-up from the 16th meeting and reviewed the implementation of projects of the ACWC Work Plan 2016 – 2020. The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) lost 0.21 per cent to end Friday at 966.18 points. The benchmark index totalled an increase of 0.27 per cent last week. An average of 234 million shares worth almost VND4.5 trillion (US$193.2 million) were traded on the southern market. The market may experience choppy trading sessions next week as many events will take place, such as the maturity of futures contracts or portfolio restructuring activities of ETFs, according to Tran Xuan Bach, senior analyst at the Bao Viet Securities Company (BVSC). Economic integration has helped Vietnamese agri-products overcome tariff barriers, especially staples such as rice and aquatic and wood products. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) has created excellent opportunities for Vietnamese agri-products to join global supply chains, according to deputy head of the Agro Processing Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) Tran Van Cong.
