Hanoi is on the lookout for COVID-19 vaccines for children, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh said on Thursday. In addition, the city is also planning to ensure two-dose vaccine coverage for residents by November, chairman Anh announced at a meeting of the local People's Council . Despite facing many struggles engendered by the coronavirus pandemic, which resurged in late April and is still wreaking havoc, the city managed to meet certain economic and social achievements. However, many other goals, including public budget revenue, fell short, while livelihoods and the daily life of local dwellers have been significantly affected. The city is seeing positive results with its social distancing tactics, as reflected by a declining daily caseload and a reduction of at-risk zones over the past few weeks. As of September 20, Hanoi’s vaccination drive had administered 6,386,058 jabs to 5,691,664 residents, or 94.4 percent of its adult population. Over the past month, the family meals of Nguyen Thi Ut, a worker at footwear maker Samho Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City's Cu Chi District, consisted mainly of vegetables and fish sauce. Ut and her husband, who works as a bricklayer, have lost their jobs and had no income for the past two months. Now, even their rent is overdue by 10 days. On July 14, her company was temporarily closed due to Covid. In the first 14 days, she still received the regional minimum wage. But at the end of the month, due to financial difficulties, the company announced the suspension of contracts with all staff. The factory announced it had already signed workers who had lost jobs over a month prior up for government financial aid, meaning each person could get VND3.7 million support. "But it has been nearly two months now and I have not received any financial support," Ut said. Nguyen Thi Ut (R) and family members eat lunch in their rented room. Antibody test is a blood test to check if you’ve either had coronavirus before or developed antibodies after having the COVID-19 vaccine. — Photo medlatec.vn HCM CITY — After recovering from COVID-19 a month ago, shipper Nguyễn Văn Út Em in HCM City’s Bình Tân District wanted to take an antibody test as he expected the result would help him get a “COVID-19 green card” – a requirement for him to resume work. Thanks to a recommendation by his friend, the shipper arrived at a medical facility in the city to take the test - a blood test to check if you’ve either had coronavirus before or had antibodies after having the COVID-19 vaccine. An antibody test is different to the swab test to check if you have COVID-19. The shipper said that in late July, after having a cough and fever for three days, he took a rapid antigen test at home. The test result showed that he was positive for SARS-CoV-2. The man said that he was unable to contact local health workers, so he treated himself at … [Read more...] about COVID-19 antibody testing not really necessary at this time: doctors
Tay Ninh Province in southern Vietnam has been ramping up investment into a series agricultural and infrastructural initiatives aimed at accelerating the province’s overall development. Compared to the 2015-20 period, Tay Ninh has spent the year expediting its development projects, beginning with the construction of major roadways throughout the province. From avenue to expressway 30/4 Avenue has long been a favorite road for local residents and visitors alike. It is the only road in the entire province without electric wires or utility poles, creating a more esthetic view of the pastoral landscapes. Other beloved Tay Ninh roads include Dien Bien Phu Road, a 4.3 kilometer thoroughfare built in 2017 to connect the Tay Ninh Holy See and Ba Den Mountain. Since its opening, supporters of the province’s development plan have lauded Dien Bien Phu Road as an important booster to local connectivity and tourism. The Ben Cay Oi Bridge, which spans the Vam Co River to connect Hoa … [Read more...] about Building a more innovative, attractive Tay Ninh
I must admit I was just as shocked as everyone when I was told Tuoi Tre News (TTN) would have to shut down along with the Vietnamese language version. Although I knew the shutdown was only a few months, it was surprising how much it had become a part of my life. I didn’t realize how much I would miss TTN. Sniff…where’s the hanky? After contributing to the ‘City diary’ section of the TTN website for five years and more than 300 articles, it was disconcerting to find my weekly writing process grind to a halt. It felt like being fired from a job. Initially I wasn’t too worried but as time passed, the lack of a creative outlet began to get to me. No, my hands didn’t shrivel up in despair nor did I hide in the corner imagining my public life had come to an end. However I did eat more chocolate. I wrote more than one story a week as some events during the year required more content, for example, between Christmas and the Western New Year and then over the Tet holiday. Other times I … [Read more...] about Did ya miss us?
