The center will be the focal point of the chain of smart production, processing, and consumption centers in the region. In this link chain, about 50 percent - 70 percent of the production processes are done automatically and intelligently. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) last week again warned that the ocean is faced with increasing threats and multiple risks posed by climate change, natural disasters, environmental pollution, over-exploitation of natural resources, and unsustainable economic activities. “Global warming and marine litter are threatening marine resources, including widespread bleaching of coral reefs. Globally, an estimated 8-20 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every year. In Vietnam, around 2,000 tonnes of plastic waste leaks from the country into the ocean every day. It is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050,” said Caitlin Wiesen, resident representative in Vietnam of the UNDP. Vietnam achieved decent growth in the first quarter despite global geopolitical instability. The socioeconomic statistics report for the first quarter of 2022 of the General Statistics Office published on March 29 stated that GDP in the first quarter was estimated to increase by 5.03 per cent over the same period last year. A day before the report, Fitch Ratings forecast that Vietnam’s growth would recover to 6.1 per cent in 2022 and 6.3 per cent in 2023 thanks to increased domestic consumption, exports, and investment inflows. Ho Chi Minh City transport authorities have requested that measures be taken to prevent commercial passenger transport companies from overcharging their passengers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. In a dispatch sent to the airport authority and agencies concerned on Wednesday, the municipal Department of Transport asked that steps be taken to prevent passengers from being fleeced, including regular inspections of such vehicles. Strict punishments must be given to any firms which claim higher transport charges than their quoted rates, the department said. The move was made after passenger Dr. Le Dang Doanh, former head of the Central Institute for Economic Management, was asked by a commercial car driver to pay nearly VND200,000 (US$8.65) for his three-kilometer trip from the airport to a hotel.
