Operetta Die Fledermaus at HCM City Opera House on Sunday
Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat) by Austrian composer Johann Strauss II will be staged at the HCM City Opera House on Sunday (October 28). The Bat, set in Vienna in the 19th century, centres on Dr Falke’s plan to take revenge on his friend Eisenstein, who left him at a park after a costume party. Strauss composed the operetta to a German libretto written by German dramatist Karl Haffner and author and composer Richard Genée. The work premiered in 1874 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. Directed by German stage director David Hermann, The Bat was first staged in HCM City during the Autumn Melody Festival last August, the biggest event featuring classical arts in HCM City. It received a warm welcome from critics and local and foreign audiences. Hermann, who studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, won first prize at the International Competition of Staging and Stage Design in Graz, Austria in 2000. Energy generation, infrastructure development, and sustainable investment activities will be the key cooperation fields between the Los Angeles Business Council and Ho Chi Minh City in a newly established alliance. Los Angeles Business Council (LABC), the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Amcham), and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry Ho Chi Minh City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Ho Chi Minh City in July 30, to establish an alliance designed to promote economic development through collaboration and information sharing in energy generation, infrastructure development, and sustainable investment activities. Los Angeles is being considered the first destination for air services, according to the Ministry of Transport. Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho on July 27 held a meeting with Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City mayor, to discuss cooperative plans in air transport. Addressing the meeting, the mayor remarked that his city boasts robust growth in transportation, including seaports, airways, expressways, and a downtown railway, adding that 40% of commodities entering the United States arrive through the city’s ports. German opera Der Freischutz to premiere in HCM City
Viet Nam News HCM CITY — Der Freischutz (The Maskman), a German romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber, will premiere at the HCM City Opera House this weekend. The performance is a co-production of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) and Goethe Institute in Việt Nam. German director David Hermann has produced two operas in Việt Nam, including Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus (The Bat). The three-act Der Freischutz was composed in 1821 to a libretto by German dramatist Freidrich Kind. It premiered in the same year at the Schauspielhaus Berlin concert hall in Germany. The opera is about a group of foresters who engage in a shooting contest. Max, an assistant forester, is forced to win the game if he wants to marry his love, Agathe, a daughter of Cuno, a forester.
