Low-cost meals for the underprivileged in Ho Chi Minh City

Budget eateries offering each meal at a mere VND1,000 (US$0.04), VND5,000 ($21), or for free in Ho Chi Minh City are warming the hearts of low-income workers and disadvantaged people amid surging goods prices. Situated at 317 Trung My Tay 13 Street in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, the eatery run by Tran Thi Dung and her husband serves offal porridge for disabled and elderly people and lottery ticket vendors. Tran Thi Dung recounted that three years ago, her husband was severely injured in a traffic accident so she took him to their hometown for care and treatment. When he was in good health again, they returned to the city to do business. Oil prices ease as Aramco says ready to boost crude output

Brent crude futures fell 27 cents, or 0.3%, to $97.88 a barrel by 0034 GMT after settling 1.5% lower on Friday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $91.87 a barrel, down 22 cents, or 0.2%, following a 2.4% drop in the previous session. Saudi Aramco stands ready to raise crude oil output to its maximum capacity of 12 million barrels per day (bpd) if requested to do so by the Saudi Arabian government, Chief Executive Amin Nasser told reporters on Sunday. "We are confident of our ability to ramp up to 12 million bpd any time there is a need or a call from the government or from the ministry of energy to increase our production," Nasser said. He added that China's easing of Covid-19 restrictions and a pickup in the aviation industry could add to demand. Vietnam stock market remains attractive to foreign investors

The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) has risen for the fifth week straight on the back of oil, steel and electricity securities , after hitting a bottom of around 1,140 points in early July. It ended the week at 1,262.33 points, 9.59 points higher than the previous week, gradually approaching the next resistance zone of 1260–1285 points. Vietnam, Laos enjoy 24.2% rise in two-way trade in 7 months

Meanwhile, Vietnam mostly imported from Laos fertilizers, rubber, wood and furniture, ore and other minerals. In July alone, two-way trade hit USD 125 million, a surge of 54.1% year on year, including Vietnam’s export revenue of nearly USD 53.2 million, up 33.9%. This was the third consecutive month that Vietnam enjoyed an increase in exports to Laos, helping reduce the fall in the turnover to minus 1.6% from minus 6% in the first half of this year.
