LOS ANGELES — Desk jockeys in eye-wateringly tight spandex will blur the line between fantasy and reality this week as they invade San Diego for the world’s largest celebration of pop culture fandom. The 49th Comic-Con International will revel in movies, TV and - yes - comic books, as fans in pitch-perfect monster, alien and manga costumes swelter in the southern Californian heat over five surreal days. Where fandom abounds, controversy is never far behind. And the big bone of contention this year is Disney’s decision not to bring its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to Comic-Con, despite a record-breaking year with Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. I’m comforted at this time of year by the trustworthy weather reports of Da Nang’s most famous weatherman, Kit Davidson. Funny yet informative, Kit has a reassuring knack of telling us the weather won’t be terrible for long. Even if the gale outside threatens to smash my garden to pieces, his cheerful analysis of the weather is some of my favorite Facebook reading. My Van to appear on L’Officiel The first runner-up of Vietnam’s Next Top Model 2012 contest Kha My Van will appear on French fashion magazine L’Officiel. Van has been chosen after competing with hundreds of international models in Milan, Italy. L’Officiel is a French fashion magazine which has been published in Paris since 1921 and targets upper-income, educated women aged 25 to 49. In 2006, it had a circulation of 101,719. A men’s edition of L’Officiel, L’Officiel Hommes, and many foreign editions are also published. The complete name of the magazine is "L’Officiel de la couture et de la mode de Paris". Van began her career as a professional model in Milan, Italy in January 2015. She was chosen to appear on the Italian Vogue-a world’s leading fashion magazine and in the latest collections of some famous fashion brands, including Elisabetta Franchi and Label2. "EVERYTHING IS GOLDEN" is a series of works developed out of Wise's personal interest in using colours and simple geometric shapes to explore how spatial and color relationships have the power to evoke emotional responses.
