COVID-19: Seven additional local infections recorded in Hai Duong

February 25, 2021 by vov.vn

Seven of the latest patients are in Hai Duong province, the epicentre of the nation’s most recent COVID-19 outbreak. Each of the individuals are F1 contacts that came into close contact with previously-confirmed COVID-19 patients.

The one remaining imported case is a 25-year-old woman who is being isolated to receive treatment at the General Hospital based in Tay Ninh province after her test result came back positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Following the detection of seven new cases, the number of locally-transmitted cases in Hai Duong, the nation’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, reached 643 since the virus was first detected in the country late last month.

Among the patients currently undergoing treatment, a total of 196 cases have since tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at least once, with the majority recording negative results either two or three times.

Furthermore, both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s two major cities, are poised to allow schools to reopen from early March after recording no fresh COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Elsewhere, the northern province of Thanh Hoa recorded as many as 2,146 cases returning from Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, and other pandemic-hit localities, all of which are under health observation after testing negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

At present, the country has registered a total of 2,400 positive COVID-19 cases, including 1,520 community cases of the virus, 900 imported ones alongside 1,804 recoveries.

MoIT sets export growth target of up to 5% despite COVID-19 challenges

February 25, 2021 by vov.vn

Between the beginning of the year and mid-February, the country’s export turnover recorded an impressive surge of 36% to US$38 billion compared to the same period from last year, while imports also increased by approximately 25%, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

Hai emphasized that this year’s export target of between 4% and 5% remains reasonable due to the COVID-19 pandemic not being brought under complete control across the world, especially in major Vietnamese export markets.

Following the signing of three FTAs, including the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), they are anticipated to give fresh impetus to the nation’s import and export activities.

After coming into force last year, each of the FTAs, especially the EVFTA and RCEP, represent large-scale agreements that the nation can benefit from, Hai noted.

He elaborated that when the EVFTA first came into effect on August 1, 2020, the number of certificate of origin (C/O) forms of EUR.1 for Vietnamese exports to the EU market increased dramatically. The move indicates that local businesses have immediately maximised the benefits brought about by the trade pact.

Furthermore, despite the range of adverse impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the EU market last year, Vietnamese exports to the fastidious market witnessed robust growth in terms of traditional goods and new commodity groups, especially wooden products.

Hai therefore pointed out that with these agreements being implemented in a comprehensive manner and the pandemic gradually being brought under control, Vietnamese production and export activities will witness stronger growth moving forward.

AES, PetroVietnam set up joint venture for US$1.4 billion LNG terminal

October 29, 2020 by hanoitimes.vn

The Hanoitimes – The partnership is expected to develop a hub for LNG imported from the US.

US energy firm AES Corporation and Petrovietnam Gas JSC (PV Gas) on Wednesday signed a term sheet of the joint venture agreement for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal with a US$1.4 billion investment in central Vietnam.

With the agreement signed during the 3rd Indo-Pacific Business Forum (IPBF) held in Hanoi on October 28-29, the joint venture is expected to speed up Son My LNG Terminal’s financial completion which is scheduled in 2022 and commercial operations in 2025.

The Son My LNG terminal complements AES’ investment in gas infrastructure around the country, with its previously announced US$1.8 billion 2,200 megawatts (MW) combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant.

Together, the plant and terminal will play a major role in shaping Vietnam’s energy future by diversifying the energy mix with imported LNG as well as meeting the country’s increasing demand for sustainable and affordable electricity.

“This is an important milestone for the development of the Son My LNG terminal and our CCGT power plant. With these two projects, AES is fully committed to the country’s growth in cleaner energy sources and offering the most reliable and affordable electricity to support the continued economic growth of Vietnam,” said President of AES Vietnam David Stone.

As part of the signing ceremony, AES also received a Letter of Interest from the US’ Eximbank and International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to support the Son My LNG Terminal and Son My 2 CCGT projects with a loan amount of US$3.2 billion.

Making comments in pre-recorded remarks to a business conference hosted both online and in person in Hanoi, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo said Vietnam has approved the project and that it would “open the door to billions of dollars per year in US LNG exports to Vietnam. That’s a real win-win situation.”

Virginia-based AES Corp. and its Vietnamese partners have been gradually ramping up efforts to develop a hub for importing LNG from the US over the past several years.

HCMC – The Ministry of Health has reported eight fresh Covid-19 patients, with seven locally-transmitted cases in Hai Duong Province and one imported case in Tay Ninh Province, taking the country’s tally to 2,420 as of tonight, February 25.

Five Covid-19 cases in Hai Duong Province tested positive after they had been put at concentrated quarantine centers, while the two others in the province were detected through screening. They are receiving treatment at the field hospital No. 1 and 2 in the province.

Another case reported in Tay Ninh Province is a 25-year-old woman. She entered Vietnam through Moc Bai International Border Gate in the province on February 22 and was immediately quarantined.

In related news, the HCMC government has decided to allow some non-essential services such as wedding venues, cinemas, restaurants, eateries, museums and libraries; and tourism activities to resume from March 1.

The service providers must follow Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures, including wearing face masks, keeping a safe physical distance and avoiding mass gatherings of over 30 persons.

Meanwhile, bars, discos, gyms, karaoke parlors and sporting centers remain suspended until further notice.

Universal Robots: Leveraging automation to reduce workplace injuries

February 24, 2021 by www.vir.com.vn

universal robots leveraging automation to reduce workplace injuries
Automation technology can reduce most common causes of injury in manufacturing environments

Automation technology can help increase productivity and reduce up to 72 per cent of the common causes of injury in manufacturing environments.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam recorded 3,349 occupational accidents from January to June 2020 with total deaths numbering 378.

The accidents were most prevalent in the manufacturing sector (27.41 per cent), construction (23.24 per cent), and services (12.35 per cent) while the remaining 37 per cent was spread across other sectors.

Most local manufacturers are currently facing a growing skilled talent shortage which strains their overall productivity and growth. At the same time, employers are also facing immense costs associated with workplace-related injuries.

“Cobots can perform tasks that may be dangerous or injury-prone for humans. With built-in safety features that slow the robot arm when a human enters its workspace, cobots can keep human colleagues safe from occupational injuries as they address repetitive and dangerous tasks in the manufacturing sector,” said James McKew, regional director of Asia-Pacific at Universal Robots.

For more complex applications, Universal Robots has a comprehensive network of Certified System Integrators and Authorised Training Centres ready to support users with day-to-day operations after the initial installation.

Universal Robots’ adjustable safety system allows companies to adjust a range of parameters to reduce the risks involved with implementing an industrial robot application.

These include limiting the force, speed, power, or momentum of the robot, or restricting its workspace using safety boundaries. Productivity gains, along with the inherently safe design of cobot solutions, signify this new automation technology could reduce up to 72 per cent of the common causes of injury in manufacturing environments.

“As we move closer to the vision of Industry 5.0 where man and machine work together on the smart factory floor, the need to consider the safety and compliance requirements of this new kind of workplace has become paramount. In a collaborative workforce, human and robots complement each other in their roles which offers significant opportunities to enhance manufacturing productivity, innovation, safety, and overall job satisfaction in the workplace,” said McKew.

McKew pointed out that companies can achieve a faster Return on Investment (ROI) by using cobots to free up workers’ time, allowing them to tackle higher productivity processes and ultimately acquire new skills.

Unlike traditional robots that require engineer-level programming, cobots are designed to make programming simple through human-machine interfaces (HMI) familiar to anyone who has used a smartphone.

For more complex applications, Universal Robots has a comprehensive network of Certified System Integrators and Authorised Training Centres ready to support users with day-to-day operations after the initial installation.

By eliminating the need for formal education in programming or robotics, such interfaces and capabilities make the skills gap and learning curve for using cobots diminishingly small.

Universal Robots encourages local manufacturers to adopt the perfect man and machine collaboration. With cobots, manufacturers in Vietnam need not fear the impacts caused by the growing skilled talent shortage.

The collaboration greatly reduces the time, effort, and cost associated with using the same cobot for various tasks as a cobot’s flexibility translates to a significantly faster return on investment.

Universal Robots (UR) was founded in 2005 to make robot technology accessible to all by developing small, user-friendly, reasonably priced, flexible cobots that are safe to work side-by-side with people.

Since the first cobot was launched in 2008, the company has experienced considerable growth with the user-friendly cobots now sold worldwide. The company has regional offices around the world, such as in the US, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Russia, China, India, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, among others. In 2020, Universal Robots had a revenue of $219 million.
