A Vietnamese-French academic was presented with the Maurice Audin mathematics prize in Paris on Wednesday for his great contribution to the field, after a two-year wait. According to the French website Images des mathématiques (or Images of Math), Prof. Ngo Bao Chau, 46, a Vietnamese-French mathematician at the University of Chicago, was announced the winner of the 2016 edition of the Maurice Audin prize. Images des mathématiques is published by the French National Center for Scientific Research (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – CNRS) and devoted to popularization in mathematics, with an aim to show the diversity of the science in an attractive way – words and pictures. Netflix unveils winners of ‘My Vietnam’ short film competition

(Photo: Netflix) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Netflix unveiled the winners of its "My Vietnam" short film competition powered by Netflix's Cinema Beauty - Vietnam Creative Economy Grant on May 25. Over 100,000 viewers tuned in to the highly-anticipated award ceremony, live-streamed on Yeah1's Facebook channel, on May 23. The First Prize was granted to Pao's Forest (Khu rung của Pao) by Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat. The film tells the story of Pao, a Mong man who married at 14. At the age of 18, he falls in love for the first time, forcing him to choose between love and family responsibilities. The project was filmed over one month in Moc Chau township of Son La province, and all of the film's actors are from the Mong ethnic group. Viet Nam’s handicraft products win UNESCO prize
Three handicraft products made by Vietnamese artisans have won the "Seal of Excellence" 2006 prize of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The prize winners, including two pottery vases produced by the Tran Minh Kinh and Chuc Hung pottery kilns and a lacquer bowl by the Kim Ma workshop, were selected from 13 entries submitted from Viet Nam . Chu Shiu-kee, Chief UNESCO Representative in Viet Nam , said the result proved that Vietnamese handicraft products have met with international standards and should gain more opportunities in the world market.
