(Photo: tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn) HCM City (VNA) – Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City are expected to reach some 5.3 billion USD in 2019, a year-on-year surge of 9 percent, despite unfavourable global financial and monetary market, according to Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City branch Nguyen Hoang Minh. Minh said that Vietnamese expatriates remitted roughly 4.3 billion USD to the southern hub as of the end of November. The flow of money has played an important role in economic development as well as stability of foreign currency supply in the city, he stressed. Thailand sees strong rise in exports of vegetable, fruits to China
Illustrative image (Source: internet) Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has reported that the country’s exports of fruits and vegetable to China surged 31 percent in the January-May period to 1.2 billion USD. Export revenue of fruit rose 123 percent to 838.61 million USD. Of the figure, earnings from durian accounted for 48.5 percent, followed by longan, mangosteen and coconut. However, export revenue of vegetable in the period was only 361 million USD, a drop of 33 percent year on year. Cassava was the major currency earner of the country which made up 96 percent of the total exports of farm produce to China, followed by beans and dried vegetable. MARD Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said though the agricultural sector of Vietnam has obtained major achievements, it cannot rest on its laurels due to three challenges, which are the small production scale, climate change impacts and economic integration into the world. He admitted that the country has good agricultural production capacity but the production remains ineffective due to the small scale. Thailand takes additional economic stimulus package
Thai Minister of Finance Uttama Savanayana (Source: Bangkok Post) Bangkok (VNA) - The Thai cabinet has approved an additional stimulus package valued at 5.8 billion baht (191 million USD) with a hope of boosting the economy to close to the country’s target of 3 percent. The package announced includes a 2 billion baht consumption promotion programme, reduction of real estate transfer fees worth 2.6 billion baht and low-interest loans from the Government Housing Bank, valued at 1.2 billion baht, said Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana.
