His net worth has increased by $3.2 billion over last year when he topped Forbes’s list of four Vietnamese billionaires. A 13 percent increase in the value of Vingroup’s shares in the first week after Vietnam’s stock market reopened following a 9-day Tet (Lunar New Year Festival) break has been a factor in boosting Vuong’s net worth and catapulting him into the top 200 list. Viettel aims to be leading telecoms group in the world
According to Major General Nguyen Manh Hung, president of Viettel Group, his company has contributed to the telecommunications boom in many international markets. It now has around 100 million customers, becoming one of the 15 largest telecoms companies in the world, he said. Viettel’s two branches of electronics & telecommunications and high-tech weapon industries have earned VND12 billion (approx. $523,168). Many products in the latter field are now equipped to the military as they have equivalent quality to those of NATO. Vietnam’s growing popularity as a travel destination has been confirmed by its ranking as one of the 10 best places to visit in the world. The ranking was released by the world’s most popular travel guide and review website, TripAdvisor, last month. The ranking is based on readers’ reviews and ratings for various categories including accommodation, restaurants and travel experiences, gathered over 12 months. Vietnam, which was named among world’s 20 fastest growing travel destinations in 2016, has overtaken its neighbor Thailand for the first time. Thailand came in 9th, three places behind Vietnam. Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in January-May skyrocketed 27.6 percent from a year ago to more than 6.71, according to the General Statistics Office.
