Export turnover of the locality in the reviewed period hit 12.76 billion USD, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.22 percent, while the province spent 10.66 billion USD on imports, up 1.11 percent from the same period last year. The foreign investment sector is the biggest contributor to the trade surplus with its 8-month export turnover reaching 10.44 billion USD. Meanwhile, the non-State and State-owned economic sectors respectively earned 1.98 billion USD and 333.2 million USD from export. Under the proposal, the Vietnamese private bank intends to offer $1 billion worth of bonds in the form of 3-5 year Euro Medium Term Notes to investors outside the U.S. and Canada, which will be listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX). The par value of bonds will be $1,000, multiples of $1,000, or other allowed values in accordance with international bond market practices and the regulations of SGX. According to VPBank, the nominal interest rate of these bonds can be fixed, floating, or a combination of both depending on each issue and market conditions at the time. Additionally, the lender said it will issue $120 million in the form of Green Bonds, which are those specifically earmarked to be used for climate change and environmental projects. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the sector earned 5.5 billion USD from the export of farm produce and forestry and aquatic products. In the two months, the revenue of farm produce exports stood at 2.71 billion USD, a drop of 10.1 percent; while that of animal husbandry hit 77 million USD, down 7 percent. In the first two months of this year, the country saw a trade deficit of 84 million USD. VASEP General Secretary Truong Dinh Hoe said exports grew by 10 percent last year to 653 million USD. Despite being affected by the EC yellow card warning for failing to make progress in fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the country managed to increase exports though the growth rate was lower than in the previous year, he said. Vietnam exported tuna products to 105 markets last year, with the US, the EU, Israel, ASEAN, Japan, Canada, China, and Mexico being the major ones.
