The Ministry of Health logged 13,840 new coronavirus cases in Vietnam on Tuesday, along with 1,249 recoveries and 217 fatalities. The latest infections, including five imported and 13,835 domestic transmissions, were documented in 59 provinces and cities, the ministry said, adding that 7,306 patients got infected in the community. Ho Chi Minh City reported 965 of the latest infections, Can Tho City 898, Tay Ninh Province 869, Hanoi 737, Binh Duong Province 645, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 491, Khanh Hoa Province 486, Thua Thien-Hue Province 306, Dong Nai Province 272, Bac Ninh Province 190, Binh Thuan Province 170, Hai Phong City 156, Da Nang 141, Lam Dong Province 100, Quang Nam Province 53, and Quang Ninh Province 37. Last week, Hanoi had suspended the use of the Pfizer vaccine from two batches in a campaign to immunize children from 12 to under 18 against Covid-19. Numbered 124001 and 123002, the batches originally had the expiration date of November 30. However, upon a request by Pfizer Vietnam, the Drug Administration of Vietnam extended the use of the batches by another three months. The doses had to be in cold storage of between minus 90 and minus 60 degrees Celsius. The doses were distributed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to Hanoi and several other provinces on November 25. In a plan submitted Tuesday, the ministry proposed that the resumption will be carried out with two trial phases. The first phase starting Dec. 15 will see flights resumed between Vietnam and San Francisco or Los Angeles (the U.S.), Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Vientiane (Laos), Beijing (China), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), and Taipei (Taiwan). Those are markets with the most important political and economic cooperation relations with Vietnam, with a high number of investors, experts, and laborers wishing to work and explore business investment opportunities in Vietnam, said the ministry.
