Quang Nam native crowned Miss Vietnam 2018The Saigon Times Daily Tran Tieu Vy, a native of Quang Nam Province on the central coast, is crowned Miss Vietnam 2018 - PHOTO: COURTESY OF THE ORGANIZER HCMC - Tran Tieu Vy, an 18-year-old girl from the central coast province of Quang Nam, outperformed 42 other contestants to be crowned Miss Vietnam 2018 in the final round held in HCMC on September 16. Bui Phuong Nga from the northcentral province of Ha Tinh and Nguyen Thi Thuy An from the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Together with the crown which was made from 30 pearls and 3,260 sapphires, Vy got VND500 million in cash and gifts worth several hundreds of millions of dong. Vy, who is 1.74 meters tall, currently studies at the HCMC University of Technology and Education. She will represent Vietnam at the Miss World 2018 which is slated for early December in China. Not only is it preparing to celebrate Switzerland’s national day on August 1, and shortly afterwards to say goodbye to its current Consul General. In addition, last Thursday it presented the awards for the most prestigious academic papers in the medical field based on research conducted in Vietnam, the Alexandre Yersin Prize. The prize is run by the Helvietmed association, a group of doctors of Vietnamese origin now working in Switzerland. Pioneering work in the medical field is normally perceived as mostly coming from Western countries, but this prize aims to highlight, instead, outstanding research work done here in Vietnam. Hoi An to host final round of World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018The Saigon Times Daily Phan Thi Mo, 28, from the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, will represent Vietnam at World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 - PHOTO: VNA HCMC - The ancient town of Hoi An in Quang Nam Province will host the first week of the final round of the World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 pageant from August 27 to 31, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The contest is being attended by more than 50 beauties from around the world, who will arrive in HCMC on August 24 to take part in several activities before heading to Hoi An for the final round. Actor Kwon Sang Woo visits Vietnam By Hung Le Actor Kwon Sang Woo speaks at the signing ceremony - PHOTO: HUNG LE HCMC - Famous South Korean actor Kwon Sang Woo arrived in HCMC last Saturday to attend a signing ceremony of a strategic partnership between a Korean company for whom he serves as brand ambassador and its Vietnamese partner. Kwon Sang Woo, ambassador for the e.p.t.p. brand of Seoul-based Jetema Co Ltd, attended the ceremony at the invitation of Shimex Saigon, the exclusive distributor of e.p.t.q. filler in Vietnam. Kwon Sang Woo, born in 1976, started his acting career in 2001. He rose to stardom in 2003 with the romantic comedy film My Tutor Friend and the melodrama series Stairway to Heaven.
