The exhibition, themed "Vietnam – Cambodia Solidarity and Friendship," is part of the activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam – Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 – 2022).
Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, representatives from the GDP's agencies and the Department of Foreign Relations, and Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth attended the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Vietnam Museum of Military History Colonel Le Vu Huy affirmed the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia. He recalled that 55 years ago on June 24, Vietnam and Cambodia officially set up their diplomatic ties, marking a new historical milestone in the bilateral relations.
Colonel Huy added that through many ups and downs in the history, this relationship has been consolidated, nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries and become an invaluable asset of the two nations.
The two-week long exhibition introduces 200 photos, items, documents, and books recalling the care of President Ho Chi Minh and leaders of the Vietnamese Party, State, and military for Cambodia. The exhibition also highlights the current generation's efforts in bringing into play the traditional friendship of the two countries in the spirit of "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability."
The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part, themed "Undissolvable Vietnam – Cambodia solidarity," introduces photos, documents and items reflecting the close relationship between the two parties, states, militaries and peoples in the resistance war for national liberation. They also highlight the sound leadership of the Party and State during the war against Pol Pot force and the impartial support of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers for the Cambodian people.
The second part, themed "Cooperation for development," is about the intensive and practical development of the bilateral traditional friendship and cooperation in different fields with defense and security cooperation being one of the pillars in the bilateral relations in the international integration period.
The exhibition aims to help troops and people learn more about the historical values and significance of victory of the two countries' struggle for peace, independence, national reunification and territorial integrity as well as the combat solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. It will contribute to preserving and consolidating the solidarity and strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
