The U.S. diplomat highly appeciated the good cooperation between the two countries, saying that the areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. have been broadened.
Coming back to Vietnam after 15 years, the U.S. ambassador has seen remarable results in bilateral cooperation, trade and investment, cooperation in health, climate change, exchange of ideas of science and technology, in defense security. He assessed that the bilateral cooperation has grown impressively thanks to the efforts of both countries.
He highlighted the cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. to deal with pollution on the mekong delta, a big issue that causes damages and affect life of local people. He expressed his delight at visiting a Vinfast factory in Hai Phong city, saying that it is a great example of Vietnam – U.S. economic cooperation.
The U.S. diplomat also expressed his pleasure with the building of a Vinfast factory in North Carolina, employing tens of thousands of Americans and creating jobs for local people. This, according to him, has helped tighten the economic relationship between the two countries and been important for growing in the future.
Regarding the bilateral defense ties, Ambassador Knapper praised the cooperation to improve the capability of the coast guard force of Vietnam in terms of maritime defense. He also mentioned the U.S. provision of cutter vessels to the Vietnam Coast Guard Command several years ago.
Together with fruitful cooperation in search and rescue, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, the U.S. diplomat showed his strong belief in the two countries' ties in education to raise Vietnamese armed forces' capacity, especially good command of foreign languages.
He said the U.S. is proud of helping Vietnamese peacekeepers and it is really significant in Vietnam. He mentioned Vietnamese peacekeeping mission in South Sudan and confirmed that the U.S. is happy to continue working with the country in this field.
He hoped that the defense and security ties will be deepened based on the mutual trust built over years. He highlighted the cooperation in dealing with legacy of war, including dioxin remediation in Bien Hoa airbase, UXO clearance, and finding of servicemen missing in action.
