— The Vietnam-U.S. comprehensive partnership will keep thriving for the benefit of the two countries, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Pham QuangVinh said in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, following the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
— Algeria wants to enhance relations with Vietnamese legislative bodies, President of the Algerian Senate AbdelkaderBensalah told the Vietnamese Ambassador to AlgeriaPham QuocTru in Alger on Wednesday.

Society
— Vietnam’s State President Tran Dai Quang visited and extended Tet wishes to outstanding intellectuals in Hanoi on Thursday, two days before the holiday begins.
— Four environment officials related to the state’s management responsibility in the environmental disasters caused by a steel mill of Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Group in central Vietnam have been punished, the government announced on its portal on Thursday.
— Fifteen people died, while 16 others were injured in 22 separate traffic accidents on Thursday alone, two days before the Lunar New Year, the national traffic safety committee said.
— Several cases of pickpockets and phone thefts atNguyen Hue Flower Street were reported on Thursday, the first opening day of the iconic annual flower showin Ho Chi Minh City.
— A couple in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong were cooking banhchung, a delicacy for Tet, when they left the house, leaving two children, aged six and five, behind the locked door. The house late caught fire, killing both kids.

Business
— Vietnam is poised to start granting electronic visas for foreign citizens from 40 countries worldwide under a pilot scheme on February 1, the Immigration Department announced on Wednesday.
— Vietnam’s rice exports topped 325,000 metric tons, valued at $136 million, in January, a 32 percent decrease in volume and 35.1 percent in value, compared from January 2016, the Vietnam Food Association has said.
— Heineken NV said it will consider deals to expand its presence in Vietnam, which is currently its second-largest profit generator, Reuters reported on Thursday.
