According to the Directive 17 signed by Hanoi chairman Chu Ngoc Anh on Friday evening, people in the city are asked to stay at home and only go outside in necessary cases like going on business trips, working at essential businesses that are allowed to operate, buying food and medicines, or emergencies such as medical issues, fires or natural disasters.
Groups of more than two people in public places including hospitals, workplaces, and schools will be banned and people are asked to maintain a two-metre distance.
Public transport services including buses, taxis, motorbike taxis will also be banned, excluding those in service of pandemic prevention and control. Delivery services such as Grab will continue to operate but will not be allowed to transport passengers.
The measures were imposed amid the rising number of new infections reported in the city over the past few days. Between April 29 and July 23, the city reported 656 infections, including 70 cases confirmed on July 23 alone. Many of the patients were found outside quarantined and lockdown areas.
At present, 19 southern localities including Ho Chi Minh City are also imposing social distancing measures for Covid-19 prevention.
