The event was co-chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of External Relations Senior Colonel Pham Manh Thang and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper Senior Colonel Le Ngoc Long.

The event aims to contribute to fostering defense cooperation between Vietnam and other countries.
According to organizers, all readers, except personnel of the People's Army Newspaper and the Department of External Relations, are eligible to participate in the contest from May 6 to August 8. Participants will answer multiple choice questions, which are printed in the People's Army Newspaper, and write their predictions of the number of people with correct answers and send them to the headquarter of the People's Army Newspaper at 7, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.
In addition to weekly prizes, organizers will award one first prize (worth VND 20 million), two second prizes (worth VND 10 million each), three third prizes (worth VND 5 million each), and 10 consolidation prizes (VND 3 million each) to the winners. The five participants with the most correct answers will receive Certificates of Merit and VND 3 million in cash, while the unit with the largest number of participants will be awarded VND 20 million.
According to Senior Colonel Le Ngoc Long, this year Vietnam will host two events, including "Emergency Area" and "Sniper Frontier," at the Mieu Mon National Training Center. In addition, a culture and art performance contest will be one of the competing events in the 2021 Army Games. Participating teams' performances will be posted on social media and voted on by online viewers.
Long recalled that last year despite the complicated development of the COVID-19, Vietnamese teams achieved encouraging results. More especially, the Vietnamese Tank Team won a gold medal at the Tank Biathlon event. To ensure safety for members during the events in Vietnam, organizers will propose measures to effectively prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.
The deputy head of the organizing panel affirmed that with their rich tradition and high resolve, teams of the Vietnam People's Army will achieve high results at the event.
Speaking at the press meeting, Senior Colonel Pham Manh Thang affirmed that the Department of Military Training, the Department of External Relations, and other agencies have developed various COVID-19 prevention and control measures to protect troops' health. Participating teams will stay in separate areas to ensure their safety.
The 2021 International Army Games are scheduled to be organized in 12 countries, namely Armenia, Algeria, Belarus, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, Serbia, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Russia.
