The Christmas holidays, cold weather and shopping season are now rapidly approaching, just as COVID-19 cases continue their uptick, in the United States. That means some people will be shopping in person at local stores, and others will shop online. In both cases, hand sanitizers might be on that list again. Whether you are shopping for yourself, a loved one or a secret Santa, hand sanitizers could perhaps be in the mix. Not particularly for a gift, but maybe for yourself or your family. Not all hand sanitizers are safe, though, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has issued a list of 215 hand sanitizers that are not safe for humans, mostly if they are ingested. The FDA began listing toxic hand sanitizers in June, starting with a list of nine—all made and distributed from Mexico. The FDA’s list then grew from nine to 14, then to 100, then 150 and now 215.
