GRETA Thunberg fired another death stare at Donald Trump today as he urged world leaders to “reject prophets of doom” on the environment.
But he again fell victim to one of the teen activist’s icy glares as he boasted of the “powerful machinery of American enterprise”.
Mr Trump said he has never been more confident about the country’s future, declaring: “America’s new found prosperity is unprecedented.”
And he appeared to take a swipe at Greta and fellow climate campaigners, saying: “We must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse.”
He said: “They predicted overpopulation and the end of oil. We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy.”
Greta, 17, locked her stare on him in an echo of their clash at the UN climate summit in New York.
In September, Greta gave the president a chilling stare as he walked past her – sparking a Twitter row between them as he mocked the teenager as a “happy young girl”.
She was later named Time magazine’s Person of the Year, the youngest ever recipient of the honour.
Today in Davos, Mr Trump was asked if he had a message for Greta – who was giving her own speech later.
He replied: “I’m a very big believer in the environment.
“We right now are doing extremely well in the United States.
“But what I want is the cleanest water, the cleanest air and that’s what we’re going to have.”
The president – whose impeachment trial begins today in Washington – insisted America’s future is secured under his leadership.
He told the billionaires and politicians at the forum: “I see such tremendous potential for the future. We have not even started.
“Tremendous wealth is pouring into areas that for 100 years saw nothing.
“We’ve regained our stride, rediscovered our spirit, and reawakened the powerful machinery of American enterprise.”
He also boasted of his achievements in office including the “largest tax cuts and reforms in American history” and phase one of a trade deal with China.
Prince of plug-ins
PRINCE Charles will go by electric car to the World Economic Forum in Davos today — where climate change is centre stage.
He will deliver a speech to launch his Sustainable Markets Council which aims to help financial markets become more ecologically responsible.
He created the council to cut carbon last year, with the support of the World Economic Forum.
Charles last attended Davos, in Switzerland, in 1992. It comes ahead of his first official tour of Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories this week.
He will visit the World Holocaust Forum, in Jerusalem.
