There are delays on the M6 southbound this evening following an accident on the southbound carriageway between J6 for Birmingham city centre and J5 for Castle Bromwich.
One lane is closed following the collision.
Slow traffic on the M6
There is slow traffic on the M6 southbound at J3a for the M6 Toll.
Traffic is slow going into the on going roadworks, where there are narrow lanes whilst the motorway is upgraded to a SMART motorway.
Radford Road busy
It’s busy on Radford Road heading outwards from the city.
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes if they can.
Busy on the ring road
The Coventry ring road is busy at J6 (Warwick Road) this afternoon.
Motorists are urged to find alternate routes if possible.
All lanes have reopened on the M6 but it’s still busy
All lanes have now reopened on the M6 southbound between J5 for the A452 (Castle Bromwich) and J4a for the M42 J8.
Motorists are being warned it is still busy though, with the prospect of some delays.
Accident causing long delays in Nuneaton
Reports of very slow traffic on Greenmoor Road in Nuneaton due to an accident.
The accident happened near to the junction with the near B4112 Bull Ring and not far from the Horseshoes pub.
Broken down vehicle
There is one lane closed and slow traffic due to a broken down vehicle on the M6 Southbound between Junction 5 A452 (Castle Bromwich) and Junction 4A M42 Junciton 8.
We have had confirmation from traffic website Inrix that the M1 has now been re-opened.
Traffic is returning to normal, however there is a broken down vehicle slightly further on blocking a lane.
Lane closure near incident
There is one lane closed not far from where this morning’s incident took place.
A broken down vehicle is blocking a lane on the M1 Southbound between Junction 21 and 20.
Traffic was already slow, so it may be best to avoid the area.
Traffic England is showing that the M1 between Junctions 20 and 19 has now been re-opened.
Slowly, traffic is beginning to return to normal following the incident this morning.
We will get this confirmed by traffic website, Inrix.
Closure expected to remain
The road closure on the M1 Southbound between Junction 20 and 19 is due to remain for a short while longer.
All three lanes have been closed since 7.30 this morning.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins, from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “The road remains closed while officers carry out enquiries and I would ask motorists to use alternative routes at this time.
“While our investigation is in its early stages, I would like to ask anyone travelling on the M1 at around 7am today to come forward.
“If you have a dashcam installed in your vehicle – or you saw what happened – please contact police. I would also like to speak to anyone who saw either the lorry or the car travelling between junction 21 and junction 20 prior to the collision occurring.”

Man arrested following M1 collision
Following the death of a man on the M1 Southbound this morning between Junction 20 and 19, a man has been arrested.
The 51-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.
Man dies after M1 lorry crash
Leicestershire Police have confirmed that a man has died following a collision on the M1 Southbound this morning between Junction 20 and 19.
Police were called shortly after 7am following a report of a collision involving a car – a silver BMW X3 – and a lorry on the southbound carriageway, just after junction 20, for Lutterworth.
The driver of the car, a man, died at the scene.
Police update on M1 incident
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Police were called after a car hit a stationary vehicle in Links Road, Radford, Coventry, just after 7.30am today (4 Oct).
“Officers are currently on the scene.”
Two car collision on Links Road
West Midlands Ambulance Service have confirmed there was an incident this morning on links road.
A spokesperson said: We were called at 7.26am to reports of a two-car RTC on Links Road, Coventry. One ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.
On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, who was freed from her car by the fire service. She was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire as a precaution.
M6 lane closure
There is one lane closed due to broken down vehicle on M6 Southbound from Junction 5 A452 (Castle Bromwich) to Junction 4A M42 Junction 8.
Traffic is coping well – this breakdown follows a few others that have occurred in the same area this morning.
Heavy traffic on A425
There is heavy traffic on the A425 Birmingham Road between Wedgnock Lane (Warwick Cemetery) and Theatre Street (The Kings Head Inn).
There is queuing traffic on the A445 Emscote Road between B4099 Warwick New Road (Leamington Spa) and Broad Street (Warwick).
Travel time is currently five minutes.
Accident on Links Road
Police are at the scene of a crash in Radford this morning.
Officers were called to the incident in Links Road, Radford, at around 7.30am and are still there.
There is queuing traffic on the A422 Banbury Road inbound between Rushbrook Road and A3400 Shipston Road.
Travel time is six minutes.
Incident was between a lorry and a car
A Leicestershire Police spokesman told our colleagues at LeicestershireLive: “The incident we are dealing with involved a collision between a lorry and a car.”
Very slow traffic
There is one lane closed causing very slow traffic due to a broken down vehicle on the M6 Northbound at Junction 3 A444 Bedworth Bypass (Nuneaton/Coventry).
Lane one is closed just after where traffic join from the entry slip road.
The M6 Southbound lane that was closed between Junction 5 and 4A due to a broken down vehicle has now been re-opened.
Traffic is returning to normal.
M6 lane closure
One lane is closed and there is queuing traffic due to broken down vehicle on M6 Southbound from J5 A452 (Castle Bromwich) to J4A (M42 interchange).
The previous broken down vehicle in this area has now been removed – the incidents are separate.
M1 traffic diversion
Traffic that is trapped due to the M1 Southbound incident between Junction 20 and 19 is now being released.
Police are diverting vehicles of the motorway using the following route: traffic is to follow the Solid Square route via the A403 through Cotesbach, and then the A5 southbound to rejoin the M1 at J18.
Large tailbacks on M1
Due to the serious incident on the M1 Southbound this morning between Junction 20 and 19, there are large tailbacks of traffic.
If you are travelling south from Leicester this morning it is advised you find an alternative route.
Broken down vehicle causing queues
There is queuing traffic due to a broken down vehicle on the A4600 Ansty Road in both directions around B4082 Woodway Lane.
M42 partially blocked
The M42 Northbound is partially blocked this morning due to an accident from Junction 3 A435 Alcester Road (Redditch) to Junction 3A M40.
Traffic is currently coping well.
