Furie is entered in the competition section while Daddy Issue will be screened during the closing ceremony. Le Van Kiet’s action film is scheduled to be shown on March 12 and 16, also marking Furie’s international premiere. The competition section will feature 14 Asian films made on or after 1st October 2017 and unreleased in Japan. The winners will be chosen by an international jury. Furie tells the story of a woman in the Mekong Delta facing dangers to save her child. It features actress, producer and director Ngo Thanh Van, aka Veronica Ngo. Furie is expected to release in Vietnam on February 22. The Vietnamese poster of “Daddy Issue” directed by Ochiai Ken. Comedy Daddy Issue, to be screened at the closing on March 17, was made by Japanese director Ochiai Ken. It is about a father and daughter magically switching their bodies when they get to understand each other. In Vietnam the movie has earned VND40 billion ($1.7 million) within a week of release. Other films in the competition section include Jessey Tsang’s The Lady Improper (Hongkong), Oliver Siu’s Still Human (Hongkong), and Jay Abello’s The Girl in the Orange Dress (the Philippines). The Osaka Asian Film Festival has been held annually since 2005. The 14th edition from March 8 to 17 will feature 51 movies.
