If you love all things pink, make sure you pay The Tea Terrace Cobham a visit, even if it is just to take a photo and grab a slice of cake.
The pretty café opened in Cobham in December 2018 and it is already becoming a hot spot for Instagram fans.
As soon as you walk through the double glass doors off Oakdene Parade, you will be bombarded with pink, pink and more pink.
From the furniture and decor to the crockery and cakes, every shade of pink is used in the magical tearoom.
Part of The Tea Terrace group which has two branches in central London and one in Guildford , the latest tearoom has three Golden Cinderella Carriages in which you can sit and have breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea – making your visit even more enchanting.
Now, I am not the biggest fan of pink I admit, but I am obsessed with cake and the delectable spread on offer was incredible.
From carrot, chocolate and salted caramel, to coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle and coconut and raspberry, there is a sponge to suit all tastes, plus there’s an orange and lavender cake which is free from gluten and dairy.
To enjoy the full tearoom experience and to overwhelm my Instagram account, my partner and I ordered afternoon tea.
As expected it came complete with a pot of tea, sandwiches, scones and petit fours, but there was one big difference – you could choose your own sandwich fillings and flavour of scones.
Perfect for the fussy ones amongst us…
Afternoon tea reviews
Choose 2 sandwich fillings:
- Smoked salmon and cream cheese
- Egg mayonnaise and cress
- Tuna mayonnaise and cucumber
- Ham and tomato
- Cucumber and cream cheese
- English Cheddar cheese and handmade chutney
We were surprised to see crusts left on the bread and the sandwiches cut in triangles rather than in finger form like other afternoon teas we have had.
However, despite my preference for crust-free, they were still delicious especially the creamy and thick egg mayo.
Choose 2 scones:
- Apple and cinnamon
- Cranberry and white chocolate
- Cheddar cheese and herb
- Gluten free sultana
Now this was a real treat as we had never been able to choose our scone flavours anywhere in the past.
The star of the show was undoubtedly apple and cinnamon – think apple pie in cake form. Divine.
Naturally, we loaded them with jam and clotted cream for the full works.
Petit fours and tea:
With nearly two dozen different types of tea to choose from, we played it safe by sticking to our trusty English Breakfast brew.
Served in a charming pot and accompanied by dainty floral cups, it really felt like you were at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
Traditional afternoon tea also comes with a selection of French petit fours and they were just as elegant, with a mini chocolate, lemon drizzle and carrot cake.
The tearoom can cater to most dietary requirements including gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian.
The Celebration Afternoon Tea pictured below (comes with a glass of bubbly) is free from gluten and dairy and it tasted just as indulgent.
Gluten free bread and cake is available as are vegan scones which are also gluten free.
The Tea Terrace Cobham is certainly an escape from reality, in fact it feels like you are in a fairytale, especially if you book one of the Golden Cinderella Carriages.
You don’t need to love the colour pink to enjoy it, but you do need to have a sweet tooth as the menu is full of dreamy, luscious bakes.
A fellow and much younger diner was dressed in a princess outfit, I am guessing from the movie Frozen… and she was the perfect candidate to who this fascinating venue is for – birthday parties and special occasions.
I only have one gripe from our debut visit and that was the telephone system.
When I tried calling up the tearoom using the number listed on the Tea Terrace website, I could never get through.
I only wanted to call up to ask if they catered for food intolerances but it seemed that I had to physically go into the tearoom to ask.
The Tea Terrace Cobham does not take any table bookings unless you want to sit in one of the carriages and to reserve that you must book online.
