The blaze rapidly engulfed the workshop which contained fabric scraps used to produce brooms as huge plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from more than 10km away. As soon as the alarm was raised, firefighters rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze. After 14 hours, the fire was brought under control but clouds of black smoke were still spilling from the factory. Firefighters continued to douse the smouldering ashes to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. According to preliminary information, the 500-square metre workshop and all assets and machinery contained within were completely destroyed. There were no reports of fatalities from the fire. The cause of the fire has been attributed to a short circuit.
