For better or worse, San Francisco is perpetually in a state of flux. Nowhere is the push and pull of established and new more obvious than in the Mission, where outposts of burgeoning Bay Area chains like Smitten Ice Cream, Tacolicious and Souvla have cropped up alongside long-standing mom-and-pop eateries. The following, which includes everything from high-end cocktail bars to restaurants with globally inspired menus, are some of our favorite places that have opened in the last couple of years. We’re also loving that — while not necessarily new — stalwart neighborhood bar Doc’s Clock is experiencing a renaissance in its new location. Not every new restaurant will necessarily survive long enough to join the ranks of old-timers like La Taqueria (see Hall of Fame), and sadly, even some of the beloved classics are finding it hard to thrive in the evolving neighborhood. However, each of these places proves that while change may not always be easy, it can at least be delicious. —Sarah Fritsche, [email protected] Ultimate Mission Guide FoodBy Sarah FritscheThe best desserts in the Mission DistrictBay Area RestaurantsBy Chronicle Staff30 classic dishes in SF’s Mission District you have to tryBay Area RestaurantsBy Chronicle StaffA guide to navigating a… Read full this story
