As Chinese President Xi Jinping accepted Kim’s offer to visit Pyongyang during their surprise summit in late March in Beijing, Wang and Ri may also start to arrange Xi’s trip to North Korea.
Earlier on April 29, Trump said that a meeting between the United States and North Korea is likely possible in “three or four weeks”.
All across South Korea, restaurants serving North Korean cold noodles have also been bustling since the summit.
Whatever the location, Trump’s meeting Kim would be a first between sitting leaders of the two countries.
Kim Dae-jung championed the so-called Sunshine policy of engagement with North Korea, and won the 2000 Nobel Peace Prize after engineering the first inter-Korean summit with former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.
Kim Jong-un and Mr Moon on Friday pledged at a summit to end hostilities between their countries and work towards the “complete denuclearisation” of the Korean peninsula.
The Korean leaders said they were both committed to a peace declaration and to formally ending the North Korean war.
Even Obama said he was surprised, and by the time he collected the prize in Oslo at the end of that year, he had ordered the tripling of USA troops in Afghanistan.
“The Chinese want to ensure that they are at the table and have a means to influence the course of events on the peninsula”, she said.
China is North Korea’s only remaining economic-ally but this will be its highest level visit there in years. North Korea, which followed suit by silencing its own critical broadcasts ahead of the summit, is also expected to remove its loudspeakers this week.
Additionally, South Korean officials also relayed that North Korea is willing to let United States authorities and experts visit and inspect their nuclear testing site which they pledged to close down as well. “The only thing we need is peace”, according to the South’s presidential office.
A branch of North Korea’s famous Okryugwan restaurant in Beijing was packed on Saturday afternoon.
He said it was bad that the two Koreas had not implemented past agreements and that doing so again would disappoint many people.
