A WOMAN whose acne was so bad she felt like she couldn’t go out and feared her boyfriend would ‘go off her’ has revealed how a €15 cream cleared up her spots.
Stephanie Barrett, 25, had suffered with acne since she was a teenager and had tried every remedy she could think of from prescribed creams to potato skins to reduce the inflammation.
Her skin became so sensitive from all the products she had tried that she was unable to wear make-up and felt she couldn’t leave the house for fear that people would judge her for being “unclean” because of her skin.
So when she discovered Silver Serum, which its makers claim contains tiny particles of silver that kills bad bacteria on the skin, she thought she had nothing to lose and gave it a try.
After a month of using the cream day and night she said the “difference was incredible”.
Stephanie, from Ampthill in Bedfordshire, said: “It was literally the only product I had ever tried that actually had an effect and didn’t hurt my skin.
“Each week I watched my skin gradually clearing, it was nothing short of miraculous.
“Now I honestly do not know where I would be without this product.
“I’ve even got my boyfriend wearing it as he gets a few spots too, though they’re nothing like my acne was.
“Today I barely need to wear any foundation anymore and my skin is so clear and smooth. It’s been a complete liberation for me.”
Like many acne sufferers Stephanie started getting a few spots when she was a teenager but thought they would clear up when she got older.
But when she was still getting breakouts in her 20s she decided she had to do something.
“I work in event management so facing important clients with a face full of acne is incredibly hard,” she said.
“I could feel people starring at my skin and it was really hard to maintain my confidence.
“I was prescribed various creams and tablets from my doctor.
“I was eventually put on a cream called Quinoderm which left me with super dry, burning and red raw skin.
“After that my skin broke out in furious red lumps all across the side of my face and jawline.
“I was endlessly searching the internet for remedies. I tried potato skin [thought to help with inflammation] and ice cubes. It was that crazy.
“I tried several off the shelf products for acne, many of which actually made my skin worse not better.”
After years of trying different treatments for her acne Stephanie’s skin had become so sensitive even the smallest amount of make up would cause it to react badly.
She started to lose her self confidence and stopped going out to avoid people seeing her spots.
“When I started a new relationship, I felt I needed to wear a lot of make-up.
“I’d spend hours and hours making myself up before seeing my boyfriend for fear that if he saw my skin how it really was he’d go off me.
“I felt people judged me due to my skin, maybe they felt I lived a bad lifestyle or didn’t wash properly.
“People do make negative assumptions when they see people with bad skin.
“I found it hard to relax and enjoy myself when out with friends, especially if they were taking photos.
“There would be times when my skin was so bad I just didn’t feel like going out at all.”
But after finding a blog written by another acne sufferer who had also found success with Silver Serum Stephanie decided to give it a go.
The cream claims to make the skin look smoother and less inflamed and is designed to remain active on the skin for several hours after application, keeping acne lesions constantly guarded against bad skin bacteria that can cause acne.
“Silver serum has given me my confidence back and, like the woman who wrote the blog, it has been a total life changer,” she added.
“I tell anyone I know with bad skin to try it as I know exactly how awful it feels to have to live with acne.”
Clearing acne isn’t silver’s only benefit – Strictly Come Dancing star Debbie McGee recently revealed she keeps fit by taking a spoonful of the supplement Active Silver every day.
Acne is a common skin condition that causes spots, oily skin and sometimes skin that is hot or painful to touch.
Most of the time acne is caused by hormonal changes in people between the ages of 11 and 30.
It is also genetic.
In the UK cases of adult acne have soared by 200 per cent, with one in five women now affected by the skin condition.
At its worst it can not only affect the face but spread to the neck, back, chest and in extreme cases all over the body as a painful condition known as whole body acne.
Earlier this year it was reported that scientists at the University of California working on two potential new treatments for acne – and one is a vaccine, that could stop unsightly breakouts before they even happen.
