Over the past years, Ea Kar, a district having a large number of remote communes in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, has focused on developing education and training, contributing to creating a driving force for socio-economic development.
The district has 81 schools and vocational training centres attended by over 35,000 students, with 32 schools recognized as reaching national standard.
In the 2016-2017 school-year, the district educational and training sector aims to continue to increase the quality of teachers, as well as the quality of teaching the Vietnamese and Ede ethnic minority languages; and equip more for education, especially in remote and ethnic minority-inhabited regions.
Few of the nearly 250 students of La Pan Tan Secondary School in the remote Mu Cang Chai district in the northern province of Yen Bai knew anything about computers or even connecting to the internet until a computing class was recently held. The Ministry of Health has proposed to the government to offer more support to low income women living in remote and disadvantaged districts. The Ministry suggested all healthcare treatment be given free for these women in state-run medical facilities. Moreover, the Ministry wants to provide meal support to low income female patients in case they have to stay in hospitals for long time for treatment or giving birth. More than 70 per cent of people living in the northern mountainous province of Lang Son have access to clean water, thanks to the Government's national programme on clean water and environmental hygiene that began in 2006. The Ministry of Health plans to send 500 young doctors to distant districts to improve the quality of medical care in disadvantaged areas. The ministry introduced this project to medical students of Medicine University in Hue City of Thua Thien-Hue Province in the central on June 16. The project will be carried out by the ministry, Vietnam Youth Union and Young Doctor Association. The Lam Dong Museum in the highlands province of Lam Dong is holding an exhibition from April 3-9 highlighting Vietnam's ownership of Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago in Dam Rong District. The exhibition displays more than 100 ancient bibliographies and Vietnamese maps, maps of Southeast Asia, European maps of Vietnam and China, and vintage Chinese maps. All maps and bibliographies validate that two archipelagos were historically a part of Vietnam.
