NDO – It is highly essential to reduce the industry’s reliance on natural resources such as mineral oil, fossil coal and ore, as well as promote innovativeness and the application of scientific and technological advances to develop the industry.
The statement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the national online conference of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in Hanoi on January 6 to form orientations for its tasks in 2017.
Addressing the conference, the PM said that the industry and trade sector has significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic achievements, notably the field of processing and manufacturing industry.
The ‘Vietnamese give priority to Vietnamese goods’ campaign was strongly promoted, creating positive changes in the consumers’ awareness through numerous trade promotion activities; meanwhile the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, fake and low-quality goods was accelerated, PM Phuc said.
He also appreciated the efforts made by the industry and trade sector in administrative reform and restructuring its apparatus and activities.
The PM emphasised that in order to create strong competitiveness, the sector should create a favourable environment for both people and enterprises to produce, manufacture and trade.
The Government leader asked the MoIT to focus on resolving the backlog of dozens of its projects. In addition, the ministry needs to set out policies to develop a number of important industrial commodities such as the automotive industry and electronic and mechanical products, he added.
The PM urged the MoIT to accelerate international integration and trade promotion as well as improve the quality of market management and create breakthroughs in the field of border trade and e-commerce.
It is necessary to mobilise all economic sectors, including both State-owned, FDI, private and equitised enterprises, agricultural and industrial and trade co-operatives, to develop Vietnam’s industry and trade sector.
In addition, the MoIT should pay due attention to promoting the role of industrial associations and building brands for products as well as developing supporting industry, noted PM Phuc.
He urged the ministry to study ‘barriers’ to protect domestic products on the basis of respect for international laws and enhance the building of a national brand with potential products.
