Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has named former Interior Minister Tareck El Aissami, 43, as Vice President.
He was named to replace Aristobulo Isturiz, who became Minister for Communes and Social movements.
In 2005, El Aissami was elected to the National Assembly.
From 2007 to 2008, he was the Vice Minister of Citizen Security. In September 2008, Hugo Chavez appointed El Aissami to be the Minister of the Interior and Justice. During both tenures, he was head of Onidex, a passport and naturalization agency that was part of Venezuela’s Interior Ministry.
He served as the Governor of Aragua from 2012 until 2017./.
