While there will be no fireworks displays for the New Year’s Eve, major streets in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City have been lit up with colorful and sparkling lights and decorations to welcome 2017.
Artistic lighting systems have been erected along Le Duan, Le Loi, Pham Ngoc Thach and Ham Nghi streets.
The decorations this year also feature familiar images and symbols of Vietnam, including yellow apricot and peach blossom flowers, lotus, yellow stars and conical hats.
Green workers are working around the clock to keep the city fresh and clean for the New Year celebrations.
“The number of garbage normally rises four to five times during the last day of the year,” Nguyen Van Toai, a street cleaner, said.
“We will only be able to stop working when the clock strikes midnight into New Year’s Day.”
