VN, China called to share Party building experience
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked Vietnamese and Chinese party officials to share practical experience in Party building and the combat against corruption.
He affirmed that the Party and Government of China wish to work closely with Viet Nam in persistently expanding the traditional friendship as well as comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Viet Nam and China, making the ties grow in a healthy and stable manner.
NA Standing Committee’s 5th session decides key issues
The Standing Committee of the 14th National Assembly concluded its fifth session in Ha Noi on December 22.
During the session, participants commented on the outcomes of the NA’s second session and preparations for the next session.
PM approves ADB-financed infrastructure project in four provinces
The PM has approved a basic infrastructure project for comprehensive development in the four provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri with its funding sourced from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project will be implemented in six years since the ADB approved the loan worth US$97 million from the Asian Development Fund. It seeks to boost socio-economic development, accelerate economic growth and enhance regional competitiveness, aiming to meet the market modernization demand of the north central economy.
PM approves VND165 billion as flood relief aid
The PM has decided to allocate VND165 billion (US$7.2 million) as relief aid to seven central localities from Nghe An to Quang Nam and northern Quang Ninh province which have been hit by recent devastated floods.
Thanh Hoa will receive VND10 billion, while Nghe An will get VND45 billion, Ha Tinh VND30 billion,Quang Binh VND35 billion, Quang Tri VND15 billion,Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ninh VND10 billion each.
The localities suffer heavy loss due to the two storms and torrential rain.
The aid, proposed by the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention andContro, will be used to support locals and fix infrastructure works, including irrigation, rural transportation and dykes.
VN honours SOS Children’s Villages leadership
Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh has ceremoniously presented the Labour Order (third class) to Siddhartha Kaul and Helmut Kutin, the current and prior president, respectively, of the SOS Children’s Villages.
At the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, Vice State President Thinh applauded the two honourees for their dedicated leadership of the SOS Children’s Villages in support of abandoned, destitute and orphaned children in Viet Nam.
In addition, noted Ms Thinh, the SOS Children’s Villages, a non-governmental international organization, under the leadership of the twohonourees, has run a whole range of programs and facilities in support of socially disadvantaged and impoverished families in Vietnam to help them lead a better quality of life.
Mangosteen hit U.S. and Australian supermarket shelves
Vietnamese mangosteens and lychees have been licenced to enter the U.S. and Australia. This is a good sign for the fruit and vegetable sector.
Meanwhile, the number of dragon fruit, rambutan, lychee and mangosteen shipments to demanding markets like the U.S., Japan and the Republic of Korea is on the increase.
Can Tho to host int’l Mekong Delta agriculture festival
The International Agricultural Festival of the Mekong Delta will be held from March 9-13, 2017 in Can Thocity, expecting to attract up to 500 domestic and foreign enterprises.
The festival aims to support agricultural development for the Mekong Delta region through the research and application of science and technology advances in production and building trademarks to increase competitiveness.
An agricultural products exhibition will be held with the participation of about 300-500 enterprises, along with a conference on science-technology application in agricultural development.
VN’s exports to U.S. soar
Viet Nam exported US$35 billion worth of goods to the U.S. in January-November, 2016, representing a remarkable rise of 14% over the same period last year.
The U.S. topped the list of countries importing Vietnamese key products, such as garment-textile, footwear, machinery, equipment and spare parts, seafood, and timber products.
According to the Viet Nam Customs, the country’s total import-export turnover exceeded US$316.9 billion in the 11-month period, of which exports reached US$159.94 billion and imports, US$156.96 billion.
VN’s tourism hits growth records in 2016
Viet Nam’s tourism sector has made new records in 2016, said Nguyen Van Tuan, Head of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism at a press conference in Hanoi.
According to Tuan, one of the records is the number of 10 million international tourist arrivals, up 25% against last year (or two million), making the highest thus far.
The ten-millionth foreign visitor to Viet Nam will landPhu Quoc international airport in the southern coastal province of Kien Giang on December 25.
Such figures showed that the sector in 2016 has reached the goals set for 2020 under the Strategy for Vietnamese tourism development in 2020 with a vision to 2030
CNN to promote Ha Noi in 2017
The hope has been sparkled as a communications cooperation agreement for 2017 and 2018 was signed between Ha Noi authorities and the CNN.
Under the deal, the U.S. channel will help Ha Noiproduce 30-second promotion videos, 3 and 5 minutes reportages, as well as a 30-minute specialprogramme.
These programmes will be broadcast across the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America and South Asia.
