Nhan Dan – The great victory of the August Revolution is one of the most glorious milestones of our nation’s history and its thousands of years of national construction and defence.
The tremendous victory ended the nation’s suffering and marked the dawn of a new era of national independence and socialism.
The Revolution’s success resulted from a self-reliance policy under the wise and ingenious leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by great President Ho Chi Minh.
It is also a triumph of the ‘art’ of revolutionary war in actively seizing opportunities, gathering all people from all walks of life, promoting the strength of the national unified bloc to lead all of them in the General Uprising.
The revolution’s great victory helped people, formerly slaves, liberate themselves and the country, break the chains of slavery under the colonialism and feudalism to establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first state in Southeast Asia based on agriculture and industry and become the owner of the country.
Vietnam became a free, independent and democratic nation from a semi-feudal colony and from illegal and secret activities the CPV grew into the only political party leading the whole nation to develop the country.
The Revolution’s success not only marked a historic turning point in the history of a heroic nation with courageous spirit, communal strength and national intelligence lit by the revolutionary and scientific ideology of Marxism – Leninism and President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts, but also affirmed the times’ inevitable trend for peace, democracy and social advancement.
The revolutionary spirit and great values of historical lessons learnt from the Revolution always inspire and strengthen the Party and the nation to continue to step on the new path and write new historical pages.
Most notably are the landslide Dien Bien Phu victory ending the nine-year struggle against the French colonialism, great victory in the fight against the American imperialism and its henchmen in the south for national unification, freedom and independence, as well as historically significant achievements during the past three decades of implementing the renewal process initiated and led by the CPV.
This year, the 68th anniversary of the August Revolution is marked in such a situation of both advantages and challenges while national industrialisation and modernisation have been promoted and the country’s position in the region and international arena has been elevated. The country is facing the global economic downturn. Many regional and international burning issues have continuously posed unpredictable changes. The domestic economy has initially escaped the most difficult period, but still faced numerous challenges while several issues raising public concern have not been resolved effectively.
In the practical spirit of the August Revolution, the whole Party, people and army should turn their revolutionary sentiment into revolutionary fighting spirit, promote the patriotism, self-reliance and national unity bloc to implement successfully the 11th Party Congress Resolution for the targets of a strong country with prosperous people and a democratic, fair and civilised society.
Further resolve is required to fulfill the current tasks of stabilising the macro-economy, curbing the inflation and ensuring social welfares, implement successfully future socio-economic strategy of renewing the growth model, restructuring the economy, continuing the renewal process, developing the socialist-oriented market economy and creating necessary preconditions for a new development period of deep development.
The Party led the whole nation to win the historical victory of the August Revolution with a number of five thousands members. The Revolution’s strength was the willing and power of the national unity bloc, and the absolute belief in the Party leadership, which united the nation into a unified powerful bloc to overcome all difficulties to win the glorious victory.
The country’s great victories and achievements since the Party establishment reaffirm that the Party is the organiser and leader of all the victories of Vietnam revolution.
Promoting the August Revolution’s spirit, each Party organisation and member, especially leaders, managers and heads of Party organisations, should raise their responsibilities in setting good examples and continue to implement successfully the Party resolution on Party building and Politburo directive on promoting studying and following the President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, in order to fight against corruption, terminate the degradation of political ideology, ethics and lifestyle among officials and Party members, purify the Party and consolidate people’s trust in the Party.
The August Revolution eternal flame will light up our future road ahead.
