Tuesday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 3 PM

A good Tuesday to you! A few of us got to see some snow flurries today, which were tiny and didn’t amount to anything. If you’re tired of the cold weather, join the club. I’m ready for spring to get here in a hurry! It looks like we will deal with a few more very cold days before a slight warm-up.

Temperatures are staying in the 30s today, with a howling northwest wind. This will put wind chill values in the 20s this evening. The wind is drying out the roads, so this should keep from re-icing issues tonight. Areas north and east of Birmingham could still have some slick spots, so take extra caution if you are driving through north Alabama. A re-enforcing shot of cold air is arriving into Alabama now, which means we get even colder. Temperatures during the day stay about where they are now, with highs in the middle 30s. Temperatures at night is what you’ll really notice, as lows falling into the teens tonight. A breeze will keep temperatures from getting as cold as they could, but that’s coming. High pressure will slide into the area Thursday night, and temperatures will get even colder. Expect lows in the 10 to 16 degree range across all of central Alabama. The good news is that sunshine will return in full force on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will stay in the 30s on Thursday, but we’ll gradually warm into the middle 40s on Friday and upper 40s on Saturday.

As a south flow develops on Sunday and Monday, skies will become mostly cloudy. A few showers are possible on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. An increase in moist air from the Gulf will warm our temperatures in to the upper 50s to lower 60s on Monday and Tuesday.

Be sure to join me today at 4, 5 and 6 for the latest on your forecast. Have a great day!

Also, we’ve been doing work to our main weather page. We have had some problems over the past few days. The bug is worked out, so be sure to check out the weather maps we put on there just for you.
